The Effect of Temperature On Biological Membranes Lab Report

The document is a lab report that examines the effect of temperature on biological membranes. It includes qualitative observations and quantitative data from two trials measuring the red absorbance of pigmented solutions in test tubes heated to different temperatures. The data shows that absorbance increased with higher temperatures, indicating increased pigmentation of membranes at warmer temperatures.

QUALITATIVE OBSERVATIONS:

TEST TUBE RATE OF PIGMENTATION OBSERVATIONS

NUMBER (FROM A SCALE OF 1 TO 6)
(1 BEING LIGHTEST)
1 3 Clear on the surface, with faint pink
residue on the bottom.
2 2 Light pink on the top; pigmentation
gradually increases down the test tube.
3 1 A light pink color on the surface, with
darker colored residue on the bottom of
the test tube.
4 4 A dark pink at the top of the test tube,
with a light red pigment at the bottom.
5 5 Light red on the surface; color increases
deeper into the test tube, making the
pigmentation very concentrated at the
bottom.
6 6 The color is very dark red throughout;
almost blood red; the bottom of the test
tube is so dark that it is almost black-
colored.
