Miden Quest Online Beginner Guide
Miden Quest Online Beginner Guide
Welcome to Miden Quest Online! This is a wonderful idle game with a lot more depth than it appears to at first
glance, with a large number of synergistic upgrades and a variety of mechanics. Progress in the game can be
very rapid, but requires a lot of foundational actions in the beginning. This guide is what I believe to be the
best path to getting started in the game. Shortlink to the guide: http://goo.gl/NW3oAp
It’s important to note that this is a tradeskill focused game. While there are combat mechanics they serve very
little utility, therefore combat will not be covered in this guide at this time. While you read this guide feel
free to introduce yourself in help chat and begin scouting the starting tile, but be aware you will be changing
locations and probably skills in very short order.
● Begin investing gems into Resources Found in earnest, and working on relic res%
Choosing a tradeskill:
All of the non-selling skills are quite balanced, and all allow for easier self investment at different points in the
game. Pick what it sounds like you’d enjoy. You will want to select a single skill to stick with, switching
skills will only hurt you longterm as levels in your main skill are extremely important
Scouting generates landmarks, which translate to a relic after 3000 accumulate, and you will use relics to
upgrade your tradeskill. It also has the additional utility of faster map movement, but generally you won’t be
changing tiles often. As a scout you will want to 50% relic find on your gearset asap (see below)
Mining, Gathering, Woodcutting, Fishing generate resources which you will need for
expeditions, boat upgrades, and eventually perks. They are also needed in very large quantities for kingdom
buildings. If you choose a resource skill you will also have access to the ability to Focus on a specific tier in
your tradeskill page, which is highly recommended as a new player. This gives +100% of a specific tier and
reduces output of the other 4 to 70%.
The Selling skill generates gold, it used to effect the market tax rate, but the market tax was reduced for
everyone, so selling has no real special use anymore.
It is a special case which has spent most of the history of the game as the worst skill in the game due to a lack
of gold sinks. Also important to note that much of the skill’s strength is dependent upon having high res luck
which you will not have yet as a new player (It will require well over 300k relics into res luck alone to a point
where it is decent, and about 1m relics to cap t5 res luck, which you won’t have for a while. By the time you do
have those relics you will be so much further along in your tradeskill that switching wouldn’t be worthwhile even
if selling was balanced). Also, due to how bad Selling is, and how few players actively sell, very few kingdoms
have built up the selling tradeskill buildings (The Tradecenter) as a result is not only will you be at a
disadvantage due to res luck, you will have smaller gains per action due to fewer tradecenters relative to your
3
kingdom mates. In MQO, the more you have to invest with the more you can invest, which gives you more to
invest with next time. You are working with exponential growth, and by selling you are putting yourself at a
serious disadvantage early on. Not currently recommended.
4
This is essential as it entitles you to some fantastic bonuses for your skill, see below for an example of
before/after production just from moving to a new location (timestamp 03:00:25 is after moving). Expect to
spend about 10 minutes or longer travelling to your tile of choice.
Select Map and click on the hex grid to move. Note that you cannot move while performing a tradeskill
action.
***You may end up moving again after you find your first kingdom, if you know someone in game and are able
to find a strong kingdom that has their own boosts you can possibly wait on this step and move after joining
said kingdom. Most starter kingdoms have inferior boosts the the below tiles, however
List of recommended tiles to visit by skill -- note that some of these may not be the absolute best in the game
but all are strong and relatively close to the starting tile
Scouting: 533, 513 (recommended) or 464, 543 -- 985, 986 after T3 Cap
Mining: 490, 538 or 460, 557 (with higher luck)
Gathering: 473, 532
Fishing: 410, 584
Woodcutting: 407, 546
Selling(not a recommended skill): 646, 476
Note that you will want to spend 1m gold to place a warp onto whatever tile you choose before moving too off it
it for any reason (travelling after joining a kingdom, venturing to PE, etc) as having a warp in the center of the
map is extremely useful. You will likely not have the gold right now, just something to keep in mind for the
future.
5
Find starter equipment (pending update - free equipment less often available):
Tired of having only 15 autos? The good news is that with some starting equipment you will be able to
massively increase that, as well as further increasing the production of your tradeskill of choice. You will be
buying this in the market as it is player made, and looking for items that have the following enchantments:
There are a handful of players that provide this equipment to new players for free or low cost (1m gold)! You
should therefore first check to see if anyone has listings of equipment for 1 gold each. Please note that this
gear takes a great deal of time to craft and does have a cost associated, so o nly take what you need.
Which will be 2 weapons, and 1 of each of the armor slots.
Select Market > Type > Equipment > Slot > and filter max price to 1. You may want to filter for a small
amount of workload or workforce to make sure you aren’t buying gear that serves no purpose. Don’t forget to
equip it after purchasing on your Equipment page (you will need to stop your actions).
Jewelry slots are often not available for free and can be acquired later or crafted yourself, but if they are listed
in the market I would prioritize workload. If nothing is posted at 1 gold you can ask in trade chat or help chat,
6
but please do not spam. If you can’t find any gear on the market and no one responds in help chat in a timely
manner go to recruit chat and ask to join a kingdom, as most will provide you with gear for free. Do not
randomly purchase gear from the market if you can’t find newbie gear, as you are unfamiliar with the game and
likely don’t know what said gear is actually worth, and what to avoid for the time being.
Kingdoms offer a great deal of benefits in this game, including more workload (autos), experience, reduction of
crafting costs, reduction of boat costs, daily citizens (after acquiring an island), and the ability to do higher
level expeditions and to do them faster. Some new player friendly kingdoms may also have tradeskill
bonuses that are higher than the above list of recommended tiles, which will require you to move to them to
take advantage. Keep in mind the in kingdom bonus for most skills (other than selling) would have to
be higher than 240 res% and 37 luck% to be worth moving, don’t get tricked into moving onto a tile
with no bonuses
Of the above list, being able to do higher level expeditions is of the utmost importance, without these progress
will be very slow. Here is a partial list of kingdoms that accept new players and a few people to contact for
each (In no particular order):
If you belong to one of the above kingdoms and need info updated, or accept new players and have a
minimum of: 10 adventurer guilds, 20 inns, 20 toolsheds, 10 academies, 20 wharfs and 20 town halls
and would like to be added to this list please PM Arania in game
Sell a gem:
You will need some gold for the next step (expeditions), and the easiest source of gold is to sell a gem from
one of your first titles, or if lucky, one you’ve gotten from a drop or a key. You can find titles in Account >
Titles. The earliest ones you are likely to get are either 500 tradeskill attempts or travelling 150km (tiles) if you
traveled to a slightly more distant kingdom. Either way, you should have one within an hour of starting the
game.
7
You will not need the entire value of the gem for your first expedition, so you may want to consider purchasing
a lvl 1 Rune of the Beginning in the Market, and be sure to equip it in your Equipment page (you will need to
stop actions to equip it)
*****Begin Working on Expeditions*****:
This is the make or break section of the game. Expeditions are a mechanic that allows you to convert
resources into Gems, one of the premium currencies. You will also acquire keys, relics, orbs and scrolls,
which will provide additional profit. They can be very complex, and there are calculators available to help
optimize (https://altizar.github.io/MidenQuest_Expo_Calculator.html), but the below general recommendations
should allow you to proceed without the use of a calculator to begin with.
You can find expeditions via Quests > Go to the Inn. Before you run your first one you will need to click
Prepare and set the levels of your adventurers and pick which resource type to use. The game will let you
know how many of each resources you will need to buy to run it.
It’s important to remember that you will need to buy resources for expeditions for a long while, do not try to self
fund them through your own production at this point. They are insanely profitable, so selling a gem from them
occasionally to fund the next ones is very well worth it.
Expedition combinations in this guide (and the calculator above) are listed in the following order:
Warrior/Hunter/Mage/Healer. Costs/profits are listed of time of writing, most things should go up and down
proportionately
5/3/5/5 -- After the first permanent boost (Gem boost to 0.061)See below
Cost: ~ 20m gold
Profit: ~143M Gold
Quest > Go to the Inn > Boost Expeditions (permanent) - Always use T5 resources
These will provide upgrades to your expeditions and are a very good investment early on. Keep in mind the
boost numbers affect each time you level the corresponding adventurers (gem boost affects Warrior and Mage,
Time boost affects Warrior and Healer, etc). For the moment, we primarily are looking to get our gem boost up
a little bit so that we can run slightly lower level expeditions that are both higher profit and faster.
In time you will want to upgrade all of the boosts, but they tend to have very definite breakpoints; upgrading
gem boost 3x has almost no benefit, 4x is huge. The exceptions being Relic Boost and Time Boost which
always provide extra benefit to any combination. I would recommend using the calculator listed at the
beginning of this section to experiment with various upgrades before pulling the trigger on them in game.
Below is an example of one recommended boost combination and the subsequent expedition changes, which
should just about double your profit. Consider coming back to this after you build your boat if you don’t want to
go for it right away. Alsok eep in mind there are many possible options, and boost priority generally should be:
Gems > Time > Key (If you can affordably hit a breakpoint) > Relics > Scrolls > Orbs
Upgrade permanent boosts to Gems 0.202 (16), Relics 2.987 (11), Keys (0), Orbs 0.061 (4), Scrolls
0.101 (7), Time 1.103 (10). Cost 1.7B gold (Screenshot is slightly off from the above, overclicked on orbs and
misclick on key).
Note key boost is 0 only because it requires a large investment and longer expeditions to pay off, it is actually a
very effective boost
You will need: 580k T5 ore, 395k T5 Plants, 1,540k(1.54m) T5 Wood, 2,100k (2.1m) T5 Fish
11
There is a lot of debate and conflicting information on how best to invest your relics to start, and no right
answer. The truth is, investing in a little bit of everything is always recommended due to cost scaling, just a
matter of what to prioritize as you go. Note that you have to be actively performing your tradeskill to invest
relics into it and only applies to that skill specifically. Do NOT invest between multiple skills, pick just one.
I believe the optimal setup is to prioritize investments that lead to levels along with some drop, as early game
income from your tradeskill is practically 0 compared to expedition income and title gems. Resource % is very
underwhelming early game compared to starting equipment, let it lag the most for now.
Recommended Priorities: Workload > Exp > Drop > Res Luck* > Res %
*Increase res luck enough to cap T2 on your kingdom tile or the tile you are visiting as a priority, this requires very little
investment, and then allow it to lag to the above priority range until level 500 or so
13
Gem Boosts:
Early game we will largely be ignoring gem boosts as they are expensive relative to relic investments, with just
a couple exceptions, namely Expedition slots and a very tiny amount of Quest Item Drop Rate
Expedition slot 2: 250 gems, one of the single best returns on investment in the game, as short as 5 days for
an active player
Other Boosts:
Work Stamina (Autos): Getting this to 15 is cheap (15 gems), you will likely end up investing in these
somewhere between your 2nd and 4th expedition slot as a cheaper alternative to relic workload.
Item Drop Rate: The Same as relic drop+, but much more expensive, save until much later
Gold Drop Rate: This is a multiplier for gold gains from drops and the selling skill. Primary gem boost for
sellers, but save until later
Resources Found: This is a multiplier for production for all non-selling skills. Primary gem boost, save for
later
Global Exp Rate: Multiplier for all exp gains, 2nd most important gem boost for all skills
Item Quality Found: Equipment drops will gain more slots and enchants, VERY limited use, do not buy this
Citizen Found: Increases citizens found during island searches (see below), save for later or never
14
Tournaments:
A good early game source of relics are tournaments, which are events that spawn randomly and you
participate in automatically if doing the relevant skill. I recommend moving to tiles within your kingdom (or the
kingdom you are visiting) to take advantage of any potential boosts they might have for that skill.
Points are awarded randomly, with no player action to improve your odds of winning. You will however receive
40-90 relics for getting even a single point +2 relics every point. You also get extra experience when you get
points, which will help get some of the early titles and their related gems. Rough guidelines for participation.
Main skill level > 250: Participate in all tournaments completely, relics from points will outstrip the production
from your main skill
Main skill level 250-1000: Try to get just a single point and then move back to doing your main skill
Main skill level 1000+: Ignore tournaments, chasing them will likely provide a net loss in income
Another good source of early income is finding the princess when she runs off. Finding her usually yields at
least 20 gems and a few million coins. You will also get half an hour of enlightenment, which while it lasts will
act as if you had 7500 gems actions, 750% gem gold, 750% gem resources found, 100% res luck on every tier
of resource, and a few not as important bonuses. If you refresh your actions while enlightenment is active you
will get those 7500 extra actions until you next refresh your actions, not when the enlightenment runs out. The
best method to find her is on the wiki accessible at the bottom of Miden Quest’s Webpage.
Miden Shards:
There is a chance by now you’ve found a Miden Shard, which are global drops at a 1/40k drop rate (not
affected by any boost). This are primarily used endgame to uncap gem boosts, unlock the 5th expedition slot,
reset boosts, and for shard power which provides a temporary bonus to all gem boosts and 7500 workload.
For now, sell any found Miden Shards, as they are a giant fast forward button worth upwards of 150B gold
depending on market conditions. These are part of why the focus on workload is so important as well, the
more actions per day you get, the more opportunities you have to find these.
Runes:
This is a good time to get the rune for your tradeskill of choice and a Rune of Exhaustion, if you’ve not gotten
one through a key drop yet. I would go straight to a level 2 unless the lvl 2 rune is more than 2B more
expensive than the level 1 rune. When you get both retire your Rune of the Beginning. Note that unlike Rune
of the Beginning you will need Runepower to equip these. You can do so with scrolls in Equipment >
Customize > Runefoge. Here is a list of runes to consider your options:
Rune of the Beginning: Additional 20 T1 +10/level to your tradeskill. Useful very early game, do not level it
15
You can buy a boat via the Navigation page, to begin with I recommending buying just a level 1 Boat, Sail
and Crew as this is a rather costly feature compared to Expeditions in the Inn, but it is cheap enough to get
started. You will likely need to sell about 3 gems for this.
I highly recommend making sure you are in a kingdom with Wharfs, as it will save you quite a bit of gold (for
boat upgrades only, not island). I will however price this assuming you do not have a kingdom.
Level 1 Boat, Sail and Crew: Cost ~175m gold, Requires 20k of all types and tiers of resources (T1-5 Ore,
T1-5 Plants, etc), 50m gold and 500k Magic Elements (Before Wharf discounts)
After you complete all 3 you will begin to acquire Seafaring Points (SP) which you can use to send Island or
Treasure searches at no additional cost. Your chances of success will be low, but this is a good additional
source of income relative to the cost.
Search for Treasure (Recommended): Chance to find gems, keys, gold, orbs and scrolls, or ME and res
bags. Recommended for this stage of the game as settling on an Island costs a minimum of 1B gold, and the
additional income from treasure hunting is useful to rush that 2nd expedition slot.
Search for a Private Island: You may wish to search for an island at this stage, but keep in mind the above
cost to settle the island, and that recommended buildings are an additional few billion gold. It can take a great
deal of time to find a usable island, so just searching for one to settle later could be prudent even if you don’t
have the gold to do so now. You will find citizens and special chests at times, but cannot claim them until you
have an island.
17
Finding an island:
For a complete newbie any island with a grey or yellow tile will work. You will want to build an Overseer’s
Circle. It will automatically send expeditions and naval expeditions every time a timer reaches 0. You will want
the timer on the Overseer’s to be a few minutes longer than your expedition length so you can run expo after
expo without overstepping by 2 minutes and wasting a few hours due to how the Overseer’s works. With the
recommended expedition boosts mentioned earlier, you should be able to make 60-100 gems per expedition
slot, every 24 hours, even more with higher expo boosts and your kingdom’s inns.
For your first island you will want room for the following 4 buildings: Gambler’s Post, Marketplace, TS Hut,
Overseer’s Circle.
Highly recommended to settle only an island with 5 or more tiles (2 or fewer blues) you can later find and
merge single tile islands to your existing one at a cost of 250M ME each. Note, contrary to popular belief you
do not need a blue tile to merge onto, single tile islands can replace any unbuilt tile on your island. It will cost
1B gold to claim your island.
Buildings:
Gambler’s Post (Lvl 1 cost ~2B Gold): Grants 2 special chests (Bronze, Silver or Gold) every day at
00:00 which can be opened with keys for better rewards than using the keys normally. Required to open
chests found while searching for islands and the Hoarder perk. Gives additional chests based on its level
Marketplace (Lvl 1 cost ~180m Gold): Gives 2 special deals every day at 00:00
(gems/keys/relics/orbs/scrolls), with an extra deal at levels 4, 7 and 10. Note: Orbs/scrolls are sometimes a
higher cost than buying from players in the market
Tradeskill huts (Lvl 1 cost ~300m gold): Grants an additional 20% experience at a cost of 20%
workload, upgraded by 5% per level (+25/-25, +30/-30) until level 8 in which Exp caps at 50% but workload
penalty drops by 5%/level This can be toggled on and off, it is important to toggle your hut off when you
are going to be inactive for longer than your workload will last with it in
Beacon: Bonus to citizens when finding islands (potentially bugged), and allows you to activate more than 1
toggle
Combat hut: Exp bonus for combat, limited use
Res. Imbuer: Allows you to use ME to upgrade one res tier to another, very slow with narrow profit, not
worth it
18
Training Hall: Lets you train your combat skills for a small gold cost, I’d recommend building this one
eventually just in case combat skills ever become useful
Warp Hut: Reduces cooldown after a Warp, useless
Overseer’s Circle: Automatically sends expeditions, naval expeditions, and quests, every time its timer
reaches 0, resets at 0:00 server time.
19
Leveling your enchanting to 100 is a fairly quick and cheap way to acquire a few more title gems, and gives
you the utility to enchant your own gear in order to add Relic% if needed for scouting, and change ratios of
Workload and Workforce or create separate sets for each for when you are inactive and active respectively
(recommended). It also gives flexibility in the market, as you will mostly just need to look for mastered gear,
not necessarily gear enchanted the way you need.
You will need to bulk sell some equipment in order to get your first few enchanting levels. After that, the
strategy is to pick the highest success rate non mastered enchant you have available and enchant/disenchant
the same slot on the same item. It should only take 5 minutes or so, and at level 100 you unlock every
non-scroll based or drop only enchant in the game.
20
Crafting (Optional)
You also have the option to level your crafting to 100 for 9 title gems. While this is also a cost effective source
of gems, it is much more time consuming with less utility, as it is cheaper to buy equipment in the market than
it is to craft yourself in most cases.
Stop your tradeskill, go to the Map, and visit City tiles (brown) and Search > Visit Weapon/Armor Shop, and
buy the following (easiest if all the same type IE; Pants, but generally too much of a hassle):
40 T1 items, 30 T2 items, 40 non jewelry T3 items (no rings, charms or necklaces), and 8 T4 items.
1. Go to Equipment > Customize > Customize and unlock the one broken slot on T1 and T2 items until
level 10
2. Select Fusion (Equipment > Customize> Fusion) and fuse T1 items until they no longer give exp
[level?]
3. Select Customize and reforge broken slots on your T4 items until level 25
4. Fuse T2 items until level 50
5. Fuse T3 and T4 items until level 100
If you’d like to continue crafting Fusion tends to be the cheapest option, keep going with the lowest quality
items you can still get experience from. There is a good list on the wiki here:
http://miden-quest-online.wikia.com/wiki/Crafting
21
If unable to find jewelry on the market I would recommend leveling your crafting to 217 in order to craft your
own T12 Jewelry. There is usually a gap in the market for these items as well, crafted and enchanted T12
Jewelry should be able to sell for roughly 2-3x the crafting costs which can be nice bonus income early on
22
Keep running expeditions, navals, and keeping your autos up until you have 250 gems to invest into your
2nd expedition slot. This is one of the absolute best investments in the game with a return on investment of
under a week for an active player. I would very shortly begin saving 1000 gems for your 3rd expedition
slot, but here are a few things to do first if you have not already.
If you’ve not yet found Jewelry this is a great time to do so. You will either be looking for T12 (30-50m/slot) or
T16 (3-5B a slot). If available I’d take the cheaper option at this point and upgrade later.
Also I highly recommend getting a full 2nd set of weapons/armor, and enchant one set for all workload
and the other for all workforce (or mostly workforce if you can’t spare the workload yet), to run when inactive
and active respectively. Be sure if scouting that you have 50% relic find on both sets. You can save your
current set in Equipment > Sets > Copy, and equipped a saved set via Equipment > Sets > Equip. Note
that you must not be performing actions to change gear.
Se the above Naval Expeditions section for information on islands, if you have not yet you should begin
searching for islands, settle one, and build a Gambler’s Post, Marketplace, Overseer’s Circle, and your
skill’s TS Hut. This will cost 3.5B+ gold (2B of which is the Gambler’s Post). From here you can either
continue searching for islands for extra citizens and chances at special chests, as well as tiles to merge, or
resume treasure hunting. Opinions vary
Save 1000 Gems for 3rd expedition slot and unlock it:
After you’ve unlocked your 3rd expedition slot, you can begin investing most expedition gems you do not need
to sell for resources into Resources Found and Global Exp Rate. You will later use your free gem reset to
use these to unlock your 4th expedition slot for 2500 gems. Keep in mind you will also be needing 300-500
gems for rune upgrades (see below) but the first points into Resources Found and Exp are cheap so I would
get these first, upgrade the runes, then come back to the gem boosts.
23
Unlock the Drunk Perk for 100 Scrolls and keep it activated:
By now you should have 100 scrolls from expeditions, use them to unlock the first perk in Character > Perks.
The Drunk perk will give you a small chance of performing a 2nd half strength tradeskill attempt of another skill
in addition to our own. For now the purpose of the skill will be to obtain levels in other skills for glevel.
Perks are expensive to level up, for the moment I would probably leave it at level 0 or 1, and would not
recommend going any higher than level 6.
Now is a good time to upgrade your permanent boosts on your expeditions if you have not done so already.
As stated before, there are many options when it comes to permanent boost upgrades and this is just one of
those options. Results in a roughly 25-30% profit increase from the previous set of boosts.
Upgrade permanent boosts to Gem 0.284 (26), Relics 4.032 (16), Keys 0.115 (19), Orbs 0.101 (7), Scrolls
0.171 (13), Time 1.902 (20). Cost 17.7B gold
Assuming you had the recommended boosts from the previous 8/1/8/8 combo you will need:
4.3m T5 ore, 5.95M T5 Plants, 12.5M T5 Wood & 15.9M T5 Fish
24
Before piling too many gems into gem boosts while saving for the 4th expedition slot you will want to upgrade
your Tradeskill Rune to at least lvl 4, 6 is recommended. Also consider upgrading your rune of Exhaustion
to lvl 4 as well. You can do this via: Equipment > Clicking on a Rune > Reforge (bottom of the page). This
costs 25 gems per rune level you are combining, and if you combine 2 runes of the same level it will go up by 2
levels. Gem costs can vary depending on the combos you do. Consider checking the market for runes to
combine as there are often runes listed for cheaper than the gem price to generate them (Lvl 2 runes typically
sell for 200-400m each), listing Lvl 2 + lvl 2 as the base option as they are usually cheaper than 25 gems in the
market making lvl 1’s not worth starting with.
So starting from 4 level 2 runes to get to a level 6 it’ll cost 300 gems and if you had to buy all the runes from
the market an additional 1.2B gold. You again may be able to save gold by starting with a higher rune
25
To aid in SP generation and chances of success, you may want to consider leveling your boat/sails/crew to
5/5/5 at a cost of roughly 2B gold (before wharf discounts), requiring 145k of each tier of each resource type,
360m gold, and 36m ME (again before wharf discounts).
This will take your SP Generation from 5SP/5Min to 17SP/5Min and take your chance of success on a low
quality search from 25% to 28% and on a medium quality search from 37.5% to 42%
You can consider going higher, but naval expeditions are a fairly poor return on investment and I would
recommend not going any higher than 10/10/10 at this point.
Not a lot changes with relic investments, but it is a common question so to revisit priorities, in order:
Experience: We are still building the level base as the production base doesn’t begin in earnest until after the
4th expedition slot when you can invest in Resources Found in earnest. Should be your highest investment
Workload: Every action matters, even if your workload still runs out only once a day you will want to keep
workload as one of your heaviest investments
Res Luck: You will want to get this high enough to cap T3 for the tile you are on, keep it within 90% of your
experience cost, don’t go higher than T4 cap before the 4th expedition slot
Drop: At this point drop income is still higher than your tradeskill income. Your drop investment should be
cheaper than the above skills but cost should be 4x higher than res%
Res%: Still very weak at this stage, dwarfed by levels and equipment. Some investment while cheap doesn’t
hurt, should be no higher than half the cost of Drop, and ideally about ¼ at this stage.
26
