INTRODUCTION

Emotional Intelligence (EI), often measured as an Emotional Intelligence Quotient (EQ), is a term
that describes the ability, capacity, skill or a self-perceived ability, to identify, assess, and manage
the emotions of one's self, of others, and of groups. Emotional Intelligence (EI) has had a huge
impact on management since Daniel Goleman (1995) published his book popular book on EI for
a wider audience. From fairly humble beginnings. EI has come into its own as one of the most
popular psychological concepts of the last decade. EI has been used by some as an umbrella
term that comprises elements such as ‘soft skills’, ‘people skills’, and a general ability to cope
with life’s demands. In other words ‘Emotional intelligence gives you a competitive edge’. It has
been argued around the world that having great intellectual abilities may make you a superb
fiscal analyst or legal scholar, but a highly developed emotional intelligence will make you a
candidate for CEO or a brilliant trial lawyer” (Goleman, 1997, p. 76). In this assignment, we are
going to see how EI influences students towards their academic performance. We supposed that
the academic success is related to emotional intelligence level, so that those persons with higher
level of emotional intelligence are characterized with a higher motivation to reach success.
Thinking is what makes possible the self-emotions correctly perception, expression and their
adjustment. An individual intellectual development depends on emotional state.

GOALS

1. To find out the level of emotional intelligence among the respondents (students)

2. Relationship between the respondent’s emotional intelligence and their academic achievement

3. To find out if emotional intelligence give impacts on academic performance

OBJECTIVES

1. To understand the role of Emotional Intelligence in education

2. To study the impact of Emotional Intelligence towards student’s academic performance

3. To examine the relationship between Emotional Intelligence and academic performance.

DATA COLLECTION METHOD

Data collection method which is used are doing survey by preparing questionnaire. About 20
students will be selected randomly and it will be equally divided into ten boys and ten girls.
