A General PLL Type Algorithm For Speed Sensorle Ss Control of Electrical Drives

This document proposes a simple PLL type speed sensorless control algorithm for electrical drives that uses a low number of machine parameters. It provides robust control down to medium speeds for induction machines and synchronous reluctance machines. The existing methods have high implementation costs and computational burdens that limit practical application. The proposed algorithm offers a quick solution for engineers with good drive performance at medium speeds, though it cannot compete with observer-based methods at low speeds.

A General PLL Type Algorithm for Speed

Sensorle ss Control of Electrical Drives

Abstract:
This paperpresentscorresponding design guidelines for an easy to impl ement and robust
speedSensorless control algorit hm for all kinds of electricalmachines that includes induction
machines as well assynchronous reluctance machines with and withou textra/permanent
excitation.
Existing method:
The existing method describesthese methods often consistof hybri d solutions with
additional signal injection in t he low speed range. Generally the drive performance ofthese
(speed sensorless) control metho ds is very good even inthe low speed range if the machine was
accurately identifiedand the alg orithm was calibrated accordingly. But the highimplementation
and calibration effort as well as thecorresponding computational burden are m ajor reasons for
alimited practical application of these methods.
Proposed method:
The proposed method pr oposes, speed sensorless control algorithm can becharacterized
as a simple (first order) PLL type algorithmincorporated by a simple machine model with a very
lownumber of parameters and a robust and good driveperformance down t o medium speed
ranges. It represents ageneral a pproach of sensorless speed control for any kind ofthree phase
machines and as such it appear s to be a quick andconvenient solution for practicing engineers
even though itcannot compete with observer based PLL algorithms in termsof low speed load
capability.

1.But the highimplementation and calibration effort as well as thecorresponding
computational burden are major reasons for alimited practical application of thes e methods.
Advantages of proposed m ethod:
1. PLL type algorithm incorpora ted by a simple machine model with a very low number
of parameters and a robust and goo d drive performance down to medium speed ranges.
Applications:
For all kinds of pumpapplicati ons and comparable load characteristics .
