SEPEP Role and Team Selection Guide

The document discusses several methods for selecting roles and forming teams in SEPEP (Sports Education and Physical Education Program): 1) Secret ballot - Students nominate and vote for roles. Votes are counted and results posted. 2) Job application - Roles are assigned based on applications submitted. Criteria and responsibilities are clearly defined. 3) Volunteer - Students volunteer for open roles. If too many, remaining students vote to select. It also presents 4 options for forming balanced teams: grading skills, ranking into categories, self/partner assessment, or direct teacher selection. The goal is to create roughly equal teams based on ability.

Selection

Selecting Roles within SEPEP

- Secret Ballot

• Ask for nominations (peer or self).

• If more than you need, proceed to voting.

• Students write 5 names, or however many needed, in order of preference.

• At the end of class, count votes & post results on SEPEP notice board.

- The Job Application

• Decision based on submitted applications.

• Job description needs to be posted on a notice board.

• Give students time to write out applications for the position.

• Selection is based on established criteria. Unsuccessful candidates would

be given special consideration next time.

- The Volunteer

• This is very public but it can work quickly & save time if this is important.
Explain to the class exactly what the roles are & how important the Sports
Board is.

• Ask for how many volunteers you need. Try & stop them when you have
enough.

• If more than needed, ask them to turn their backs & then get the remainder
of the class to vote by hands up.

Team Selection

Option 1 - Grading each player

• Sports Board gives each student a number out of 5, according to ability

• Add up total score for all students = 120

• Divide by the total number in the class

• 120/32 = 3.75

• Multiply by the number of students in each team 3.75*4 = 15

• This is what each team’s score should add up to

Option 2 - Rank players into 3 categories

• 3 = high skill, 2 = medium skill, 1 = low skill

• Students should not be aware of what category they are placed.

• Make teams with 1 person from each category. Roughly equal total points.

Option 3 - Partner & Self Assessment
• Students grade themselves and partner on a scale of 1-5 (Resource Sheet

Option 4 - Teacher Selection

• It will save time and maybe appropriate in some situations and schools.
