BYU-Idaho Preschool Lesson Plan

Lesson Plan #22

Lab Number 3
Baking: Recipes/Measuring
Date: Wednesday March 15, 2017
Supervisor: Natalie Mackie
Lead Teacher: Kelly Sheehan Lesson 4

Children’s Names and Strengths, Interests, and/or Learning/Development Needs:

1. Stephen is kind, respectful, confident and independent. He likes Legos, blocks and many
other things that boys are interested in. He has trouble remember to make and keep eye
contact with others when talking to them. He will work on this goal at the block area
when he is talking to his peers about what the train tracks he is building.
2. Brynlee is independent, polite, knows her alphabet, and gets along well with others. She
enjoys playing with stuffed animals/dolls and her friends. She also likes dancing and
singing nursery songs and listening to books. She tends to be a little shy sometimes and
needs help with going to the bathroom, as well as learning her colors. She can work on
colors at the art table where she can talk about what color crayons she’s using to make
rubbings.
3. Tanner is independent and tends to play on his own. He is interested in trying new things.
He likes being outside, cars and crafts. He has possible speech delays and therefore
needs to work on communicating. He also has little interest in fine motor activities and his
parents would like for him to work on these skills. He can work on this goal at the math
activity where he can use his pincher grasp to squeeze the droppers.
4. Cannon knows his colors and can count to 20. He loves drawing, bugs, everything with
letters/numbers, and monster trucks. He struggles with some separation anxiety, and
sharing. He also has trouble sometimes participating in gathering times. Cannon can
work on sharing at the manipulatives activity where he can share the pegs with a friend.
5. McKenzie is easy going, independent and likes to please others. She loves Clifford,
pretend playing, as well as dolls. She tends to stick by herself a lot and therefore struggles
with sharing and working with others. McKenzie can work on her goal at the sensory
table where she can share the cups with her friends.
6. Knox knows his letters very well and knows how to read. He enjoys participating in
activities that involve writing, reading and letters. He struggles with the social/emotional
domain and tends not to especially like fine motor activities. He will be able to work on
his social/emotional goal at the language/literacy activity where he will engage in
parallel play.

Preassessment and Findings:

Aidyn was playing in sensory bin where there were a couple of measuring cups. A teacher
asked her if she knew what the cups were used for. She answered by saying “for scooping
sand!” Cannon and McKenzie were invited over to a table where there were recipes on a table,
as well as measuring cups. They were asked if they knew what the items were; Cannon looked
at them blankly and walked away. McKenzie answered and said “those have eggs on them,”
but didn’t really know why. I asked Brynlee if she knew what a recipe was and she said “I don’t
know.” Then I asked Aidyn the same question, she said “my mommy uses a recipe to make
cake!” Neither knew that they had ingredients on the recipes, so this is something we should
expand on.

Ideas to be Emphasized:

1
1. We follow recipes when we bake our yummy treats.
2. We use different sized cups/spoons to measure out our ingredients.

Preschool Concepts or Skills:

1. Measure
2. Big
3. Little
