Reflection 1

This lesson introduces students to different climate zones around the world. The teacher aims to explain why climates differ based on factors like proximity to the equator or poles. Students learn about polar, equatorial and other climates through a YouTube video and modeling the sun's rotation around Earth. The students seem engaged in discussing the climate differences and how time varies in different places. The teacher met the goals of explaining the distinction between climate and weather and addressing students' initial confusion on this topic. Future lessons could enhance learning with activities like having groups draw and label different climates and provide country examples.

Reflection 1

Lesson - unit/page World climate zones Student teacher Fatema Altenaiji

MST Courtney Mcmanman School Rak Academy – PYP

Class Grade 2 Date 17/October/2018

Overall aim and context of the lesson: -identify why do we have different climate zones around the world, and what
is the climate near polar, and near equator. As well as identifying the time and weather in different places on the earth.

Select (S):
This lesson is the introduction to climate, establishes why climates are different around the world based on factors. Through this
lesson I am addressing the difference between climate and weather, showing some different climates around the world and
explain factor that make it. in addition, explain the time in different weathers and places on earth based on the sun light.
Describe (D):
This lesson is for grade 2 students in the science class, in this lesson I am trying to achieve and let students completely
understand the difference between climate and weather. through this lesson I am also achieving the questioning in the
YouTube video as much as I can get students different ideas and explanation about the different climates provided in
the video. In this lesson I am also providing the sun, world, and light for student to model sun rotating around the
earth which is the middle and ask them about the time in each place as I rotate.
The student's job in both sections is to respond to the questions and discuss their ideas and answers with teacher.
Analyze (A):
I think the students responded the way they did in this lesson because they are being completely involved and engaged
in both parts. Circle time in both parts are a useful method that gets students attention and focus.
"Circle Time is a popular activity that’s used in many primary schools to help develop positive relationships between
children. It aims to give them tools to engage with and listen to each other." (what is circle time, 2018)
When I ask students about their prior knowledge of climate and weather, they were little confused about the
difference between both. So, through my teaching I was relating their prior knowledge and explaining to students the
correct difference between both as beginning to the lesson. In my opinion, students are well engaged in this lesson
activities from the beginning to the end of the lesson.
Appraise (A):
I think it was a good beginning and a good experience as a first science lesson with students. students were enjoyed
the lesson and being really engaged with the activities, and I also met my teaching goals for the lesson.

Transform (T):
I might enhance students learning of this lesson in the future by for example providing a big sheet for groups to draw
the different climates they learn in this lesson and write on each one what they learn this climate. I might also ask
students to give me examples of countries with specific climate. for professional practice I can relate it to real life.
