INSPECTION DATE : 01.02.2013

1.0 Purpose:
To establish and maintain documented procedures to ensure that the incoming RAW material i.e.
Plates, Channel, Beams, Rods & Welding consumables shall be inspected to meet the specified
requirements of applicable code / standard.

2.0 Scope:
This procedure is intended for the inspection of plates, channel, Rods, beams & Welding consumables
(Filler wire, Flux & Electrodes).

3.0 Responsibility:
3.1 Engineer / Sr. Engineer (Q.C.) –
1) For visual & dimensional inspection.
2) For MTC Review, Testing & maintaining of records.
3) For release of material to production dept.

4.0 Procedure:

4.1 Plates, Channel , Beams & Rods:


4.1.1 Review Test Certificates for chemical & mechanical properties with respect to the
applicable code standard / client spec.
4.1.2 Plates, Channel, Rods & Beams shall be visually inspected for any imperfection.
Dimensions i.e. Wall thickness & Width of Plate shall be measured with calibrated
instruments & result of inspection (Visual & Dimensional) shall be recorded on report
4.1.3 If any check test is required by applicable code / Client’s spec., A sample shall be taken
from Plates , beam channel & Rods at a frequency of one sample per / Heat for Mechanical
& Chemical test & results of the test shall be recorded on Mechanical & Chemical test
report
4.1.4 Accepted Plates, beam channel & Rods shall be identified.

4.2 Welding Consumables:


4.2.1 Wire
4.2.1.1 Wire shall be identified by comparing the Batch No. / Lot No. on the packages /
drum with the Test Certificates.
4.2.1.2 Test certificates shall be reviewed for mechanical & chemical requirements as per
AWS-SFA / Client’s Specification.
4.2.1.3 Visual inspection of wire shall be carried for any damage to copper coating, any
rust on wire etc.

4.2.2 Electrode
4.2.2.1 Electrodes shall be identified by comparing the Batch No. / Lot No. on the
packages with the Test Certificates.
4.2.2.2 Test certificates shall be reviewed for mechanical & chemical requirements as per
AWS-SFA / Client’s Specification.
4.2.2.3 Visual inspection of electrodes shall be carried for any damage to flux coating.

4.2.3 Flux
4.2.3.1 Flux shall be identified by comparing the Batch No. / Lot No. on the packages with
the Test Certificates.
4.2.3.2 Test certificates shall be reviewed for mechanical & chemical requirements as per
AWS-SFA / Client’s Specification.
4.2.3.3 Visual inspection of flux bags shall be carried for any damage.

4.3 Non-Conformance:
In case of any Non – conformity of the material with respect to T.D.C. and or
applicable code / specification, the course of action shall be as follows
4.3.1 Material shall be identified as hold or reject & stacked separately.
4.3.2 NCR Shall is generated against the non conformity.
4.3.3 Nature of non-conformity shall be informed to Purchase / Mktg. Dept. for further action.

4.4 Records:
Plates/Channel / Beams / Rods: - Inspection Report
