DIY Ink For Markers

This document discusses researching the feasibility of using charcoal as an alternative ink for markers. The study aimed to compare the effectiveness of charcoal ink to commercial marker ink in terms of absorption, color consistency, and other factors. Materials for making the charcoal ink were gathered and the ink was tested against standard marker ink. The findings showed that charcoal ink performed similarly to commercial ink in many areas but had some disadvantages. The study concluded that charcoal ink may be a viable and more natural alternative to traditional marker ink.

ABSTRACT

The project aimed to consider ink as charcoal, advantages of using

charcoal as ink, and the effectiveness of the finish product to the

commercial ink available in the market. The study launched made us of the

descriptive-experimental method. The research done needed the following

materials to made the experiment successful. Some materials needed were

just accessible in the kitchen. Few of materials needed were recycled. Some

tools needed were bought to ensure proper measurement of the product

tested. The data gathered for the study charcoal as substitute to pentel pen

ink are presented, analyzed and interpreted in this chapter. The study was

conducted at Saint Jude Parish School, Trece Martires City. Based on the

findings, the three liquids such as water, kerosene and gasoline are not the

best choice to be experimented when it comes to let an unused pentel ink

reusable again. The researcher therefore recommended to use alcohol as

best way to reuse again the pentel pen.

CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

People all over different aspects of working are using board markers,

for the purpose of writing. Markers are made between 19th century. There

are times that chalks are cause of the disease such as allergy. Time through

time, they develop form chalks to markers.Marker is very useful to

everyone especially to students and teachers. Thus one of the main reason

of the research team is to arrived to this study is the usefulness to the

researchers. The researchers find difficulty in choosing the product to be

tested and to be experimented.

Markers use ink as their foundation of writing. It says that the uses of

the marker ink are made of such chemicals. This study will prove that there

can be materials that will be used for.

BCKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Permanent markers play an important role in writing and in artworks

in differentways. It was designed to create various permanent writings on

objects with enormouscreative and practical possibilities. Aside from its use

in writing, it is also used in labeling, poster creation and calligraphy. With

infinite use of permanent markers, many did not knowthat markers have

limitations. Usually, it is a problem for artists and calligraphers to

supplyink for the markers they are using. Typically, the inks used in most

markers are made from synthetic materials like the petroleum and chemical

solvents. These kinds of materials are hazardous especially to thehealth of

the users and to the environment as well.

In today’s modern world, almost every product has been

commercialized and peoplesought for products that are more natural and

cheaper instead. The creation of ink with alternative ingredient to be

commercialized is a demand for the artists, calligraphers as well as for the

people. The researcher thinks that charcoal has great potentials in having an

alternative permanent marker ink due to its strong tanning color. The

researcher decided to test its effectiveness as an ingredient for permanent

marker ink.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

This study attempted to determine the effectiveness of Charcoal as an

ingredient for permanent marker ink. Specifically, it aimed to answer the
following questions:

1. Is the Charcoal ink effective (refers to quality) in terms of the following:

a) Absorption

b) Stick Consistency

c) Color

2What is the acceptability of the Charcoal ink in terms of:

a. Color

b. Odor

c. Absorption

d. Rate of Evaporation

3Is there a significant difference between the Charcoal ink and the standard
ink in terms of Color, Odor, Absorption and Rate of Evaporation?
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

This study is significant to the following:

STUDENTS. This study would be very beneficial to the users of

permanent markers. Thisstudy provides many advantages to them, such as

they would have a more natural and cheaper way of having an ink for their

markers.

TEACHER. This study would be very beneficial to the teachers that

always use permanent markers. The study will help them to make a marker

that is less expensive and almost like to their regular markers.
