Combustion (astangata)
When a graha is very close to the Sun, it is
determined combustion ( ant ), that is, it can not be seen from the Earth, because it is
overshadowed by the solar rays. Here are some considerations for this state:
(1) Like the weakening ( nīcha ) and the occupation of an enemy sign ( śatru rāśi ),
combustion is seen as an affliction. Including, combhas grahasare called kopa , that is,
"angry". An irritation is perceived in the individual as to the themes ofgracha combusto,
which may be aggravated or not depending on the strength of such graha and the looks
he receives. Kalyana says (05:12,Sārāvalī ) a graha combustion is mutilated (vīkala) and
its results will be the loss of position, a filthy heart, poverty, a wandering nature and fear
of enemies. Of course this depends on many other factors. Moreover, the bad effects are
felt especially in Dasa (period) such graha .
(2) The combustion orbs vary from one grap to the other. The Sūrya siddhānta indicates the
following orbs: 17th, 14th, 11th, 8th, and 15th for Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and
Saturn, respectively. However, it is only between 0º and 5º (some consider until 8º) that
the combustion becomes really intense and harmful. In addition, when Mercury is retrograde, its orb of
   combustion becomes 12º.
(3) In general, combustion affects the subjects of which the graha is kāraka , as well as the
house that occupies it. Unless the graha is very distressed, he will not deny the themes of
the houses he rules on the map [1] .
(4) As the sun one graha hot, dry and a blinding radiance, its influence has the ability to
ignite and separate everything it touches. It is common to see people with Venus combust
living in divorce or suffering from the geographical separation of those they love. When
Jupiter is burned, this can deny children or move them away, etc. Generally the distance
that the Sun causes is due to egoism or a need for individuation, to be free of
dependencies and external references that will obstruct personal development.
(5) A graha who is combustion, under the influence of evil and a graha enemy is
calledKsobhita - agitated. Parāśara says (45.24-29, BPHS ) that the results that
such graha gives are acute shortages, a cruel disposition, misery, financial fiascos, and
financial woes at the foot obstructions caused by the government's wrath. Obviously, the
influence of a grahabeneficial minimize the severity of the disease, who are particularly
skilled in the DASA(period) of graha in Ksobhita avastha .
(6) Depending on the regencies of the sun and the gracha combusto, good yogas can form
between them. For example, if the sun is a conductor Kona and graha combustion of
aKendra , both form a Raja Yoga . However, this does not deny some kind of suffering
linked to the themes of graha combususto.
(7) Since the burning charcoal is hidden by the rays of the sun, it will bring with it a veiled
influence. For example, if such graha mean a disease that is difficult to diagnose. We
also see the combas representations representing individual aspects in conflict and that
the individual tends to project on the world, instead of seeing them in itself.
(8) The medieval authors of the Western tradition of astrology considered a graha set the
Sun at a distance of at most 1 was protected. This type of conjunction is called cazimi ,
from the arabic kaṣmīmī which means "in the heart . " A graha in a cazimi conjunction is
   empowered by solar nature.
(9) It should be noted that there are differences between a higher conjunction and a lower
conjunction with the Sun. Lower conjunctions occur with all grains and surround their
position behind the solar sphere. The superior conjunctions only occur with Mercury and
Venus, when these are between the Earth and the Sun, that is, just the front of the Sun
from our terrestrial point of view. The lower conjunction weakens the graha too much ,
while the upper one gives strength to it. Venus and Mercury form the conjunction
superior to the Sun when they occupy previous degrees to the same.
Let's look at some examples of combustion from what was mentioned above:
           Joseph Campbell
Joseph Campbell was a renowned student of comparative mythology and
religion. In their map Jupiter and Mercury are in a conjunction cazimi to the Sun, that is
to occupy to exactly the same degree. Jupiter is kāraka of children and the same did not
have children, nevertheless, as regent of four and seven, Jupiter did not deny him
comforts, immovable, vehicles and marriage. In addition, he has become a distinguished
teacher and writer, which is due to this exact conjunction to the Sun of twograhas linked
to the intelligentsia. Mars, although set in the Sun, holds a distance of 16 ° from it, which
characterizes a very weak combustion to be considered.
       Gottfried Wilhelm Von Leibniz
The German philosopher, Leibniz, counts on Jupiter combusto by the Sun to
occupy the eighth house ( bhāva chakra ), in twins, which denied to him children and
also marriage, because to eight it treats the sustentation of a relation. On the other hand,
Leibniz was a prominent philosopher and mathematician, which is characterized by such
conjunction in the eighth house that deals with the mysteries, being Jupiter the regent of
the lagna and the Sun, of the nine, which constituted a rāja yoga .
       William S. Burroughs
Burroughs was one of the icons of the beatnik generation. On its map we find
Venus and Jupiter together in the Sun, although only Venus undergoes severe
combustion. Considering the bhāva chakra , Venus and Sun move to the lagna , with
Venus being ruler of four and nine and the Sun of seven, which constitutes a rāja
yoga. Burroughs' family was wealthy and the same benefited from it. However, although
Venus benefited him in this way because of his regencies, he also made him suffer
because of his kārakātva(theme). He was separated from his wife in a rather tragic
way. Drunken at a party, he was challenged by his own wife to shoot a glass that was
over his head, however, he missed the shot and ended up killing her. Notice that Mars is
casting his gaze on Venus, which strengthens distress and explains the violent outcome of
the event. After this, Burroughs became homosexual and became deeply involved with
the underworld of drugs. However, as the Sun and Venus form a rāja yoga , he has
gained recognition as an artist.
