The surrounding of an inhabitant and the available resources play a major role in the growth and
development of the region. Therefore, the management and analysis of the resources are very
critical in the uninterrupted functioning of the region. This paper will deal with the case of Kullu
region in Himachal Pradesh. It is a Himalayan High Altitude Region (HHAR) that is located in the
Upper Beas Basin of the Himalayas. It consists of some important natural resources in the Indian
sub-continent and majorly in the Western Himalayan region. The paper will establish a
relationship between the different available resources and their management in the region. It will
also understand the importance and roles of various resources. It will also analyse the impact of
these resources and their management on the environment of the region and how it impacts the
greater ecology around it.
The author(s) have utilized the available secondary data on the region. The research was
accompanied by a site visit to the region and its context. This helped in the collection of major
information about the region and thus it will help in analysing the dependency of people on the
natural resources. This study will be an analysis of the dependency pattern of the major resources
of the region only. This will include land, water and forest, which was estimated to be a major
resource in the area. The study will follow recommendations based on the analytical
understanding of the region.
