WRITING:

AN ANNOUNCEMENT
Petr Novotný
Gymnázium Dr. Karla Polesného Znojmo
INTRODUCTION

• An announcement is a statement which contains

information about an event that has happened or is
going to happen (eg school graduation, engagement,
wedding, birth, moving, etc)
• The aim of an announcement is to inform about the
event clearly and concisely.
• The style is relevant to the type of event and the
target reader.
TIPS FOR WRITING
• Be direct and concise, so that the reader can find and
understand the information quickly and easily.
• The information must be complete, so that the reader
needn't contact you for further details – always ask
yourself the questions who, what, when where, why.
• If positive news is presented, the tone should be
optimistic, friendly, confident and helpful.
• In case of bad news, the tone should be direct and
respectful.
• Make sure that everything in the announcement is clear
and correct, and there are no mistakes.
