STORY TELLING COMPETITION

Date :12 February 2018

Time : 8.00am – 11.30am

Venue : School library

INTRODUCTION

Afternoon session English panel have decided to organise English story telling competition for
Remove class, Form 1 and Form 2 pupils in conjunction with language month. Story telling is an
effective activity to improve the standard of English among pupils.

OBJECTIVES

1. To enhance pupils’ confidence in speaking English.


2. To give pupils the opportunity to use English in an interesting, authentic and a creative
manner.
3. To instil pupils’ interest towards reading and writing in English.

DURATION OF PROGRAMME

Each participant is given 3 - 5 minutes.

TARGET GROUP

Participants are chosen from Remove class, Form 1 and Form 2.

IMPLEMENTATION OF PROGRAMME

1.RULES AND REGULATIONS

1.1 The competition is open to all Remove Class, Form 1 and Form 2 students of SMK
Baru Bintulu. There is no restriction on the number of participants for each class.
1.2 Contestants are to observe the following rules:

(a) Stories presented must not touch on sensitive issues such as race, religion and politics.

(b) Stories presented must be able to instil moral values.

1.3 A contestant will be disqualified if:

(a) he/she reads or refers to notes/reading materials.

(b) he/she is prompted by another person

ESTIMATED PARTICIPANTS

At least 18 participants are anticipated for this competition.

TENTATIVE PROGRAMME SCHEDULE

8.00 – 8.30am - Registration / briefing

8.30 – 9.40am - Competition (Remove Class & Form 1)

9.40 – 10.50am - Competition (Form 2)

10.50 – 11.30am - Closing ceremony

11.30am - Disperse

judges of the competition
1.5 Provide all types of equipment during
competition such as paper, calculator, bell and
other stationery.
1.6 Manage competition

2. NOTICE & PARTICIPATION 2.1 Prepare a notice to be pasted on the notice


FORM & REGISTRATION board
FORM 2.2 Prepare participation forms for all Form 1,
Form 2 and remove classes
2.3 Collect participation forms from students
2.4 Count the number of participants
2.5 Prepare a registration list for the day of
competition

3. PLACE PREPARATION & 3.1 Liaise with Mr. Mark for the matter of using the
CLOSING CEREMONY library as the venue of the competition

3.2 Arrange the seats of participants, judges and


teachers / AJKs
3.3 In charge of ornament / back drop during the
competition and closing ceremony

3.4 Make sure the PA systems are in good


condition

3.5 Make sure there are enough microphones for


the competition

3.6 Ensure cleanliness before, during and after


competition.

4 PROGRAM BOOK / 4.1 Get information for the brochure


BROCHURE
4.2 Provide brochure for the VIPs (Judges) AJKs
and participants

5 EMCEE 5.1 Prepare scripts

5.2 Read out scripts during the competition

5.3 Responsible for setting the tone of the


competition

5.4 Ensure the smooth flow of the competition and


maintain the pace of the event

5.5 Maintain schedule and flow of the event

6 TIMEKEEPER 6.1 Keep track of the time during the competition

6.2 Ring the bell once for the warning at the 4 ½


minute and twice as the final bell at the 5th minute

7 PRIZES, CERTIFICATES & 7.1 Fill in a form (nota minta) – get the form from
SOUVENIRS the clerks of this school

7.2 Order the prizes and souvenirs

7.3 Print certificates for all the participants

7.4 Print the temporary claim sheet and put in an


envelope (The students can only get the prizes in
April)
