Abbreviations and Terminology


Single Crochet (sc) (moves right to left)

Double Crochet (dc)

Double Crochet Front Post Stitch (FPS): Yarn over, insert hook around next stitch (insert
from front to back, and then back to front), yarn over and pull through, yarn over, pull
through 1 loop, (yarn over and pull through 2 loops) twice.
Note: This is an extended version of the traditional post-stitch. A regular post-stitch will also
work but your work will be a little tighter.

Double Crochet Back Post Stitch (BPS): Yarn over, insert hook around next stitch (insert
from back to front, and then front to back), yarn over and pull through, yarn over, pull
through 1 loop, (yarn over and pull through 2 loops) twice.
Note: This is an extended version of the traditional post-stitch. A regular post-stitch will also
work but your work will be a little tighter.

Triple Crochet Front Post Stitch (TFPS): Yarn over twice, insert hook around next stitch
(insert from front to back, and then back to front), yarn over and pull through, yarn over,
pull through 1 loop, (yarn over and pull through 2 loops) 3 times.
Note: This is an extended version of the traditional post-stitch. A regular post-stitch will also
work but your work will be a little tighter.

Triple Crochet Back Post Stitch (TBPS): Yarn over twice, insert hook around next stitch
(insert from back to front, and then front to back), yarn over and pull through, yarn over,
pull through 1 loop, (yarn over and pull through 2 loops) 3 times.
Note: This is an extended version of the traditional post-stitch. A regular post-stitch will also
work but your work will be a little tighter.

Braid Stitch 1 (BS1): Skip three stitches, TFPS in next three stitches, TFPS in the skipped
stitches. Note: the TFPS in the skipped stitches should be worked in front of the first three
TFPS. (six crossed stitches)

Braid Stitch 2 (BS2): Skip three stitches, TFPS in next three stitches, TFPS in the skipped
stitches. Note: the TFPS in the skipped stitches should be worked behind of the first three
TFPS. (six crossed stitches)

Scarf Written Instructions:


Note: This scarf transitions between two different sets of cables and therefore occasionally
sc will need to be moved and cable stitches will bridge across sc (skipping those sc) in the
previous row. A couple of things to keep in mind:
• Post-stitches will always be continued from row to row, a post-stitch is never
dropped from the design.
• The number of post-stitch should always be the same from row to row, whether
they are within a cable or standing alone.
• Try to be careful to distinguish between the two braid stitches.
• There may be extra sc in some rows compared to others. This is to maintain the
width of the scarf when the number of cable stitches varies from row to row.


Scarf Overall Written Instructions
Row 1: Chain 29 (including starting loop), dc in forth chain from hook, and dc across
(26 dc, 1 chain)

Row 2: Chain 2, turn, [sc, sc, BS1], repeat [ ] 2 times. Sc sc.

Row 3: Chain 2, turn, [sc, sc, BPS six times], repeat [ ] 2 times. Sc sc.

Row 4: Repeat row 2

Row 5: Repeat row 3

Row 6: Chain 2, turn, sc, sc, FPS, FPS, FPS. [Add two sc stitches between the next two
stitches. In the next six post-stitches and skipping any stitches in between, make a BS2
stitch.] Repeat [ ] once. Add two sc stitches between the next two stitches. FPS, FPS, FPS,
sc, sc.

Row 7: Chain 2, turn, sc, sc, BPS, BPS, BPS. [sc, sc. BPS six times.] Repeat [ ] once. Sc, sc.

the next six post-stitches and skipping any stitches in between, make a BS1 stitch. Sc, sc.

Row 17: Chain 2, [sc, sc, BPS six times]. Repeat [ ] two times. Sc, sc.

Repeat Row 4 – Row 17 until the scarf is the desired length (I repeated it 16 times)

Repeat Row 4 – Row 5 once (this makes the ends of the scarf look the same).

Tie off Yarn.

Weave in any loose yarn ends.
