Tractor operated multi sprint cultivator
PROFIlE OF INNOVATOR:
The innovator is Fabricator and manufacturer of some farm implements like
plough, harrow, cultivators etc. In addition, having workshop which is his
family’s traditional occupation and his father works with him. He also helps in
development of machines that farmers use in their farms. He has all the
machineries for doing mechanization work like welding, repairing, hydraulic
press, lathe machines, etc. His family has 11 members, including his Parents,
wife, 3 daughters, his younger brother. He has very societal and friendly nature,
his friends give him moral as well as financial support for his studies and
innovations.
He did 3-month training with wind turbine technologies at Nordic folkecenter,
Denmark-www.folkecenter.eu/ From October 2014 to December 2014.
After that he did 1.5 years’ volunteer ship in Auroville wind turbine
manufacturing company, Pondicherry by taking money from his family and
friends. http://www.aep-auroville.com/
Mr. Ghanshyam likes to study and learn new things, google is his best teacher as
he was weak in English but he has learned through google dictionary, he has also
learned designing and CAD from google.
Once he came across the news that grapes exported to European countries from
India are rejected by European countries due to the excessive use of chemicals,
they didn’t accept it, many trucks full of grapes were thrown into the sea , because
there was no option left even farmers faced loss and their financial condition was
not strong . Hence, farmers in India have suffered a lot and faced too many
problems. He believes that people in India pay less attention towards organic
farming and they are not aware about these type of technologies.
There are many technologies in the foreign countries, though they are good, but
not all farmers can afford it, he believes that farmers should adopt new
technologies in their farms according to their needs and in order to give benefit
to the general farmer in India this innovative machine will be available in low
cost and with proper maintenance.

attachments can do for it.
6
Working
For primary tillage and is especially useful in hard and dry, trashy, stony or
stumpy land conditions and in soil where scouring is a major problem. Single
Action Disc Harrow cuts the soil in only one direction. The harrow consists of a
sturdy frame, discs arranged in single gang and three-point linkage. Discs are
important component of the harrow and are made from high carbon steel or alloy
steel; the cutting edges are hardened and tempered to suitable hardness. The gangs
can be moved in either direction on the hitch frame. When operating in orchards
or plantations, the harrow can be offset to the right or left, thus enabling soil to
be thrown towards or away from the trees. Three-point hydraulic linkage and
hydraulic control makes it highly manoeuvrable.
The tractor mounted Single Action Disc Harrow consists of four concave disc of
gang mounted one side of the frame and having cutting width is 20’. Disc Gang
7
together on a square shaft called Gang Shaft or Gang Bolt. The spacing between
the discs falls between 6" with cast iron spools. Gang is attached to a spring and
small piston cylinder connected to rod which having small bend which come in
contact and touches the tree and helps to keep protected tree roots from direct
cutting. Scrapper is attached to scrap soil in between the discs. Similarly, all other
attachments like plough, weeder, furrow opener and grass cutter will also have
attached to the frame as shown,
Repair and maintenance
- Lubricate the bearings and moving parts as recommended, do not over
grease
- Check nut and bolts finesses.
- Sharpen and replace worn, cracked/ braked blades
- After use thoroughly clean all trash soils and dirty grease from harrow
- Before storing clean dirty blades and coat with heavy grease or antirust
compound.
- Only oil recovery in 6 months or once in years at least after 1000
operations.
Otherwise no more repair and maintenance cost as innovator gives 2-year
warranty and surety for free repair and maintainance as requirements.

SCOPE FOR THE PRODUCT
Standardization and quality of implement manufacturing has been ensured mainly
by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) which has formulated more than 540
standards on agricultural machinery. However, there is still scope to improve the
quality of agricultural implements, particularly in the case of small scale
manufacturers.
Allocation of USD223 million
was made for the
establishment of Farm
Machinery Banks and
distribution of farm machinery
and tools to farmers in various
states in FY16.
The sale of tractors increased
from 0.35 million units in
FY07 to 0.57 million units in
FY16, witnessing growth at a
CAGR of 5.5 per cent .
Sale of tillers increased at a
CAGR of 8.6 per cent to 48,000
units over FY07-15 .
Government of India is
focussing on increasing its reach
of farm mechanisation to the
regions where availability of
farm power is low and to small

BUSINESS PLAN
The potential users for the innovation include the –
1. Individual farmers: as local farmers cannot buy new equipment every year,
and this multipurpose tilling and harrowing farm equipment with different
portable attachments will help them to use one machine for ploughing, harrowing,
weeding, grass cutting and furrow opening and closing soil respectively.
2. Agricultural institutes: institutes that are mainly involved in farming and
research can use it, as this multipurpose machine is very economical compared to
other technologies and will rapidly develop marketing alliances with agriculture
consulting offices.
3. Construction companies: Both government and private organisations that are
involved in agricultural activities on huge scale can use multipurpose cultivator
tillage implement machine, it is time saving and will help in increasing the
efficiency and profitability of the firm.
Tractor operated multi sprint cultivator
12
MARKETING PLAN
The overall marketing plan for “Tractor Operated Multi-Sprint Cultivator” is
based on the following fundamentals-
The segments of the market: we can plan to reach mostly in grapes,
pomegranate, orange, papaya etc. . . .all types of orchard farms as well as vine
around tree without damaging tree because of its special sensor rod function. This
multipurpose implement will promote chemical less grapes production, which
can further be exported to other countries. Though technology in foreign
countries is good, not all farmers can afford it, so farmers should have to adapt
new technology in their farm according to their needs and in order get the benefit
to the general farmer in India, which will be available all over in low cost and
maintenance.
Distribution channels planned to be used to reach market segments: majority
of farmers live in the remote areas where there is no accessibility of digital
technology and internet. The only medium of information for them is done
through radio, t.v and newspaper. Moreover, the government of India has
introduced “DD Kisan” a flagship channel for farmers. It provides them the basic
information of quality and efficient farming. Thus, t.v advertisement will help us
to reach those individual farmers who have no accessibility to other medium of
information. The possibility of being endorsed or featured through program in
radio/ t.v related to the agriculture also will be explored.
Participation in agricultural affairs: the local farmers will only buy equipment
they know to be effective, and the best way to convince them is to bring a sample
equipment to their fields for demonstration and the innovator has already taken
initiative for that ,so we can further help to participate in more affairs .It will
provide the clear picture of the product to the audience with proper demonstration
and physical presence and will help in learning the customer need and emerging
trend in the industry.
He has not marketed his product, even he has manuals and brochures but still
never tried marketing because he has no knowledge about it and neither sold the
machine as he has only 1 unit which he uses for demonstration and presenting in
exhibitions. He has also organised an event with the help of his friends as he has
no land for trial where he invited farmers from nearby areas and demonstrated the
working of his machine with different types of crops and soil . Many farmers
were interested but he has only one machine which is already in use.
13
SALES PLAN
There is a current untapped market opportunity for agriculture machinery because
existing providers of agriculture machinery and implicits are too diversified to
serve the increasingly specialized needs of the potato market by ignoring the crop
needs for mechanization of farms of grapes, orange, papaya etc.
Our strategy is to create a limited geographical niche for itself, where there will
be no potential competitors. We will offer high-quality agriculture equipments
and machinery for crop mechanization of farms of grapes, papaya etc. at a price
which is competitive in comparison to other premium –quality commercial
machinery manufacturers in the local market.
Mr. Ganshyam dose not have enough cash in hand to buy the wide range of
demonstration equipment’s, he has only 1 machine with him he can meet the
sales potential by upcoming funds. We can provide him funding for 10 lacs for
the purpose of expanding the business.
Expansion plans include the purchase of additional equipment’s, allowing him to
promote and to demonstrate its product. He has organised an event where he
invited farmers from nearby areas and demonstrated the working of his machine
and even many farmers were interested but he has only one machine which is
already in use. He has also uploaded a working video of his machine on YouTube
and done online promotions through all unpaid sources like Facebook, YouTube
,etc.
14
Nashik district, located in the North East part of Maharashtra is very famous and
popular in the world for cultivation and exports for the orchard farms and
represents 6 percent of Gross Cropped Area, with that grapes more than 2 percent
and pomegranate another 1.3 percent, a total of 39 percent of its main workers
are farmers and 21 percent agricultural labourers.
Grape farming is a highly profitable venture for farmers, but it is also
highly risky as farmers have to invest heavily for the production. Despite
the challenges, the grape sector has a lot of potential and is one of the
largest foreign export earnings. In order to get the efficient productivity,
the innovator’s multi-purpose machine would be more helpful to farmers
and will help in increasing the overall productivity.
Weeding in the Vineyards could be done easily, as frequent weeding is
required to allow feeder roots to absorb the nutrients and moisture.
The Multi-Functional tractor drawn implements can be used for inter
cultivation and weed control, as it will remove weeds between two rows
and also from space around the trees without damaging trees because of its
special sensor rod function ,in the vine yards where close spacing are
adopted , manual weeding or digging the plots and lifting the weeds once
in 3 months is also a common practice. So machine will be of great demand
in such fields.
Periodical cultivation with disc harrow to turn the soil and push nutrients
into the deeper layers is essential. So single machine can be used for multi
purpose activities which will make farmer’s work easy and will increase
productivity without buying different machines.
As demand for orchard farms in Maharashtra is quite high so, this multipurpose
machine will be of great use to farmers .
15
GRAPES CULTIVATION CLUSTER IN NASIK
16
Following activities can be clubbed with the marketing plans to promote
sales:
1. Affiliation with Agricultural Associations/Societies: The presence of these
societies are to provide education and necessary information to the needy
farmers. These associations promote the use of technology in the
development of agricultural activities. Thus, these societies facilitate the
promotion of products which can help farmers and ease their farming
activities. Lakhs of farmers are associated with one or many such societies
as they ensure and build a relationship of trust among each other. The
contact details of these farmers can be collected and they can be targeted
based on geography and later on through word of mouth/refrences.
2. Corporate farming: Many organisations are coming up which own and
influence the agricultural practices on the large scale. Some of the
companies are listed below:
DuPont Limited
Nuziveedu Seeds Limited
Advanta Limited
National Agro Industry
Godrej Agrovet Limited.
These companies are practicing farming and its related activities on large scale.
Association with them will surely build a good reputation and brand. Also, there
are possibilities of bulk orders due to their scale of activities.
17
FACTORS EFFECTING SALES OF MULTI SPRINT CULTIVATOR
Climate:
Climate can have a huge impact on the production because when its cloudy and
overcast, the orchard farms are going to have harder time getting ripe especially
for grapes, as it will take more water will start to swell and even split, mainly
fruits are formed from flowers, and a heavy rain can knock the blooms off the
plant and will reduce size of the crop , due to the undesirable climatic condition
farmers suffer a lot of loss and they are not able to invest the capital in farm.
Involvement of Established Players:
Involvement of established players like Mahindra, John Dheere etc. in the
manufacturing of similar farm implement can impact the business negatively as
they as they are already having a better distribution network, greater brand value
better reach to farmers. It can lead to reductuction in sales or lower profit margins
because then innovator might have to sell his product at discounted rates.
Pricing: most of the farmers (80%) in Nashik District have small and semi-
medium land holding so, the price factor emerges as the biggest concern from
them.
18
DISTRIBUTION CHANNELS:
DISTRIBUTION
DIRECT SALES RETAILERS
Own sales Own sales Agricultural Machinary
force outlets merchants dealers
Direct to farmers: During early stage (this year), he is focusing on
distributing this machine directly to the farmers in the nearby areas of
Nasik.
Dealership: To spread out the reach to the nearby states, a strong and
efficient dealership network needs to be developed. It will also help in
improving awareness and in teaching to collaborate with few established
dealers (dealing in farm machinery)
COMPETITION
In comparison with currently available conventional alternatives with reference
to functioning, cost and elimination/minimization of drudgery, currently less
equipment’s are available in market which is used for multiple tillage operations.
Scope and skilled equipment’s are available in abroad countries, but it has
abundant cost nearly $1000=Rs.6.5 lakhs.
As compared to abroad technology the Indian technology is easily operated, cost
effective , more efficient, environment friendly and pollution free.
