       Introduction and the People
     The United Kingdom is an island country located in
      western Europe. It is made up of England, Wales, Scotland,
      and Northern Ireland. I am amazed by its rich history and
      its large economy. In this presentation, I will share what I
      have learned about the United Kingdom.
     There are 60,776,238 people in the United Kingdom. It is
      the 24th most populated country in the world. It’s
      population density is 652 people per square mile. 89% of
      the land is urban and 11% is rural. The United Kingdom’s
      capital is London.

                Geography
            The United Kingdom is located in the
             northern, and eastern hemispheres. It has an
             area of 244,820 sq. kilometers. The only
             bordering country is Ireland. The main land
             forms are rugged hills. Some of the plants
             and animals found there are coniferous trees,
             red deer, foxes, blackbirds, and cod.
            The climate in the United Kingdom is called
             temperate maritime. This means it has a
             narrow temperature range. Some of the
             natural hazards that occur in the United
             Kingdom are windstorms in winter and floods.

                         Economy
     The United Kingdom has a GDP of $31,800 per
      capita. Its currency is called the pound sterling.
      The people grow crops and raise livestock.
      Industries produce machine tools and motor
      vehicles. One of the most important natural
      resources mined there is petroleum. Popular
      tourist attractions include the British Museum
      and the National Gallery.

                                       History
   Pre-History: Humans first arrived in the
    United Kingdom during the Stone Age.
    Many people believe they crossed a land
    bridge that is now underwater. One of their
    most famous monuments is Stonehenge.
   Colonial Era: From 1583-1997, the British
    had a huge empire. They controlled
    colonies all over the world.
   Major Events: The Acts of Union 1800
    united Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
    During the 18th and 19th centuries, the
    Industrial Revolution made the United
    Kingdom the richest country in the world.

                              Culture
   Some of the foods eaten in
    the United Kingdom are roast
    meats, fish and chips, and
    puddings. Some dishes have
    weird names like toad-in-the-
    hole and bacon roly-poly.The
    top religion there is
    Christianity, although some
    people follow Islam,
    Buddhism, Hinduism, and
    Judaism. British clothing has
    a western style. Most children
    wear uniforms at school.

                       Government
 The United Kingdom is a
  constitutional monarchy. The
  head of state is Queen
  Elizabeth II and the head of
  government is Prime
  Minister Gordon Brown. It’s
  legislative body is called the
  Parliament which has two
  houses: the House of
  Commons and the House of
  Lords. People can vote
  starting when they are 18
  years old.
