The document discusses extinction, defining it as the disappearance of a species. It describes three types of extinction: co-extinction, mass extinction, and planned extinction. Several causes of extinction are provided, including climate change, habitat loss, pollution, and invasive species. Examples are given of extinct species like the passenger pigeon and Tasmanian tiger-wolf. Endangered species in Pakistan are listed. Finally, ways to overcome extinction are proposed, such as protecting habitats, preventing introductions, education, and sustainability.

Extinctions occur when the last individual of a species
dies out.
 Extinction is the process through which a species or
higher taxonomic category ceases to exist.
Extinction may also be defined as the disappearance of
any evolutionary lineage (from populations to species to
higher taxonomic categories) because of death or the
genetic modification of every individual.

THREE TYPES OF EXTINCTION:
1) Co Extinction:
The loss of one species leads to the loss of another.
Chain of extinction.
2) Mass Extinction:
 Mean: “Extinction Event”
 A sharp decrease in the number of species on Earth in a short
period of time.
3) Planned Extinction:
 Human controlled

1) The passenger pigeon:
 The last passenger pigeon in Wisconsin was shot at Babcock, in
September, 1899. This is reportedly the last passenger pigeon
shot in the wild.
 The last Passenger Pigeon, named Martha, died alone at the
Cincinnati Zoo at about 1:00 pm on September 1, 1914.

2) Golden Toad
a small true toad that was once abundant in a small,
high-altitude region about 4 square kilometers
(1.5 sq mi).
Males were orange and sometimes slightly mottled on
the belly, while females showed a greater variety of
colors, including black, yellow, red, green, and white; both
sexes had smooth skin.
 Rainfall, water temperature, and pH of the breeding
pools were the causes of its extinction.

3) Tasmanian tiger-wolf:
 This remarkable animal looked like wolf with tiger stripes
on its back and tail, but it was more closely related to
kangaroos than to either tigers or wolves.
 found almost exclusively in Australia and certain
surrounding islands such as Tasmania.
 The Tasmanian tiger-wolf became extinct on the mainland
of Australia long ago because it could not compete for
food with an introduced species, the dingo, a kind of wild
dog.

4) Pyrenean Ibex:
 Pyrenean ibex were most common in the Cantabrian
Mountains, Southern France, and the northern Pyrenees.
 In the Middle Ages, Pyrenean ibex were very abundant in
the Pyrenees region, but decreased rapidly in the 19th and
20th centuries due to hunting pressure
 The last natural Pyrenean ibex, a female named Celia, was
found dead on January 6, 2000.
