ANDON
Introduction
Andon is a lean tool used to notify management, maintenance, and
other workers of a quality or process problem. The alert can be
activated manually or automatically based on the system. Some
modern alert systems incorporate audio alarms, text, or other displays.
TYPES

Spreading and cutting And-On
• Green - spreading is being
done
• Yellow - lay has been sent
from spreading to cutting
• Red - some technical
error and a mechanic
needs to come and fix the
issue
Band knife cutting And-On
• A red zero-watt bulb is attached
to band knife.
• It is attached to the band knife’s
power switch
• It is switched on as soon as the
machine is started.
• It gives a visual signal regarding
which machines are idle for a
while.
Machine And-On
• A red zero-watt bulb is attached to
each sewing machine.
• SMO can switch on the And-On if she
has any issue; personal (water break,
washroom break etc.) or production
related (machine breakdown, input
unavailability, quality issue etc.)
Module And-ON
Consists of 3 buzzer lights:
• Red – machine problem
• Yellow – quality issue
• Green – Raw material
related issue
Packing And-On
Consists of 2 buzzer
lights:
• Blue – Ready for
transport
• Yellow – Data entry
