Science Fair Project

Taylor Shirley conducted a science fair experiment to determine which paper towel brand is most absorbent. The experiment compared Kirkland, Great Value, Sparkle, and Bounty paper towels by placing pieces of each in plates of dyed water. After one minute, Kirkland and Bounty absorbed the most water, leaving little excess in the plates, while Sparkle and Great Value absorbed less and were more soaked. The conclusion was that Kirkland was the most absorbent brand.

Hypothesis

I think that the Walmart's


I use Bounty and
Great Value brand and
Kirkland and they seem

Materials
◦ 4 different roles of name brand paper towels
(Bounty, Kirkland, Sparkle, and Great Value)
◦ 4 paper plates
◦ 4tbs of water
◦ 4 different food dye colors
◦ toothpick
Procedure
◦ Tear off a sheet from each of the different brands of paper
towels and label them.
◦ Lay out the four paper plates and fill each with 1 tbs of water.
◦ Apply 1 drop of different colored food dye in each plate.
◦ Mix liquid with a toothpick until the water changes color.
◦ Place each of the 4 brands of paper towels into the place
◦ The water should soak the towel for 1 minute
◦ Record results
RESULTS/DATA
Conclusion
◦ Kirkland seemed to be the
most absorbent brand.
Kirkland and Bounty soaked
up a significant amount of
water soaking through less of
the towel.
◦ Both of these brands left
barely any excess water on
the plate.
◦ Sparkle and Great Value did
not absorb very much of the
water. As you can see in the
photos, they were completely
soaked and wrinkled.
◦ These two brands left a
significant amount of water
on their plates.
