The largest living thing in the world is a giant sequoia tree named General Sherman located in California, USA. It is 120 meters tall and 34.9 meters around its trunk, and is estimated to be 2,500 years old. The oldest living thing is a creosote bush in California estimated to be 11,700 years old. Sequoias are huge, coniferous, evergreen trees that originated over 1,000 million years ago. They nearly went extinct during ice ages but two species, giant sequoia and redwood, survive near the Pacific coast of the USA. The creosote bush is a resinous shrub that gives off an odor like creosote.
