Ee8301 Electrical Machines-I: Mrs.M.Maheswari, Ap/Eee

1) Energy can be converted between mechanical and electrical forms through magnetic fields, following the law of conservation of energy. 2) When a current-carrying conductor is placed in a magnetic field, it experiences a force, which is the principle behind how DC motors operate. 3) Magnetism is induced through magnetic fields and governed by laws such as like poles repelling and unlike poles attracting, as well as Coulomb's law defining the inverse relationship between magnetic force and distance.

MACHINES-I
Mrs.M.Maheswari,
AP/EEE
Law of conservation of Energy:

• Energy can neither be created nor be destroyed, but

one form of energy can be converted to other form.
• Mechanical energy-> Electrical Energy (vice-versa)
• Medium -> magnetic field
Principle of operation of DC Motor:

• When current carrying conductor is placed in a magnetic field it

experience a force.
Magnetic circuits:
Cont..,
• What is magnetism
• Laws of magnetism
• Magnetic field and lines of force
• Terminologies:
Magnetism
• The phenomenon due to which the magnet can induce the magnetism in a
piece of magnetic material placed near it, without any physical contact is
called Magnetic induction.
Laws of Magnetism:
• Like poles repel each other and unlike poles attract each other.
• Coulomb’s law:
• F -> M1M2
• F-> 1/d2
