8051 Controlled Electronic Notice Board Using GSM

This document describes a project to create an 8051 controlled electronic notice board using GSM technology. The objectives are to display messages on a board through SMS without needing to be physically present. It will use hardware including an 8051 microcontroller, GSM modem, LCD display, and software like Keil uVision IDE. The methodology section outlines the system block diagram and working principle where the microcontroller will receive SMS commands, extract the message, and display it on the LCD screen. The appendices provide the project budget, timeline, and references used.

Motivation
• Visibility from maximum area
• GSM technology aims in reducing the complexity
• for sending a message by incorporating SMS technology.
• This technology can be used in public areas such as hospitals,
schools, multiplexes and buildings
• to improve the security system ,
• to spread awareness in an emergency.

03/07/2021 3
Objectives

 To display the message on display board through SMS.

 To effectively receive and transmit data via SMS.
 To eliminate the need of being physically present
 to hangout the paper notices.

 To provide reliable, authenticated, user friendly display system.

03/07/2021 4
Scope of Project
• Used in government offices even on the off-days
• as data can be transmitted from anywhere.
• It can be used in daily population projection.
• It can be used to show emergency warning.
• It can be used in roadways to show direction.

03/07/2021 5
Project Applications
• No need of any difficult wires
• to display the information on the LCD as
• it is wireless.
• Easy to operate and Consumes less power.
• This circuit is handy.
• To display the information wirelessly in public areas like
• bus stations, parks, railway stations, colleges and organizations etc.

Instrumentation

• Hardware Requirements
• 8051 Microcontroller (AT89C51)

• 8051 Programming board (Programmer with cable)

• 8051 Development Board

• SIM 900A GSM MODEM (GSM Module)

• SIM Card (for inserting in GSM Modem)

03/07/2021 7
• Hardware Requirements Contd.

• A mobile phone with a SIM Card already inserted

• 16 x 2 LCD Display

• 10 KΩ Potentiometer

• Connecting wires

• Power Supply

03/07/2021 8
• Software Requirement
• Keil µVision IDE
• for writing the program and generating .hex file
• Willar Programmer Software
• for burning the .hex file in to the microcontroller
• Proteus
• for circuit diagram and simulation

03/07/2021 9
Methodology
• Block Diagram

03/07/2021 10
• Flowchart

03/07/2021 11
Working Principle
• Initialize the LCD and UART protocol
• Check for the command +CMTI: “SM”,3 (Location number) to
know whether the new message is received or not.
• If you receive the command, then store message location
number.
• Now read that particular location and extract the body of the
message.
• Display the message on LCD

03/07/2021 12
Result
• Character seen in LCD display
• by entering the updated information

03/07/2021 13
Analysis/Discussion of Results

• The project helps for display message

• Can be extended to use in different fields
• Difficulty on deleting data show on screen
• Adding Memory
• Hardware component are not available

03/07/2021 14
Future Enhancement
• A commercial model can be able to display more than one messages
at time.

• LED display can be used instead of LCD display.

• Automatic text to voice system can be made
