Formation of Adjectives
We can form adjectives by adding suffix to nouns and verbs.

-ual (habitual, factual)


-ic (acidic, artistic)
-ive (active , effective
-ious ( anxious, spacious)
-ed ( bored , annoyed)
-ing (boring, amusing)
Noun Adjective

Verb Adjective

Examples of forming adjectives
• Our house color is a kind of yellow. → We live in
a ________ house.
• He often acts like a child. → He often acts in a  ________
way.
• The event was a big success. → We enjoyed a ________
 event.
• She adopted a dog without a home. → She adopted a

• Look out, that plant is poison. → Look out for

Adjectives ending in '-ed' and '-ing'

Adjectives ending in '-ed'

• Describe emotions – they tell us how people


feel.
• Indicate something is already completed or
someone has done something.

Adjectives ending in '-ing'

• Adjectives that end in -ing generally describe


the thing that causes the emotion – a boring
lesson makes you feel bored.
•Have you seen that film? It's really frightening.
•I could listen to her for hours. She's so interesting.
•I can't sleep! That noise is really annoying!
