INTRODUCTION
IRRIGATION IS THE ARTIFICIAL APPLICATION OF WATER FOR THE SUCCESS
OF
CROP PRODUCTION IN THE FIELD. IN THE FIELD OF IRRIGATION HAS
REACHED A RAPID DEVELOPMENT OF MECHANIZATION. IN MODREN TIME
IRRIGATION EFFICIENCY HAS BECOME IMPORTANT BECAUSE OF
GROUNDWATER DEPLETION THEREFORE PLANNING FOR IRRIGATION IS
REQUIRED. FOR MINIMIZING THE EXCESSIVE USE OF WATER AN
INTELLIGENT
IRRIGATION SYSTEM HAS BEEN INTRODUCED. INTELLIGENT IRRIGATION
SYSTEM BEAUTIFULLY WATERING SCHEDULES AND AUTOMATICALLY
RUNNING TIMES TO MEET THE SPECIFIC NEEDS OF LANDSCAPE.
SMART IRRIGATION SYSTEM
SMART IRRIGATION SYSTEM FOCUSES FOR WATERING THE PLANT AS
IT
CALCULATES THE AMOUNT OF MOISTURE PRESENT IN THE SOIL AND
THEN PROCEEDS THE FURTHUR COMMANDS. A SOIL MOISTURE
SENSOR THAT SENSES THE MOISTURE CONTENT IN THE SOIL IN BOTH
ANALOG AS WELL AS DIGITAL AND THEN SEND THIS DATA TO THE
ARDUINO. IF THE SOIL MOISTURE SENSOR DETECTS NO MOISTURE
THEN
THE PUMP WILL GET STARTED AND WATER THE PLANTS.

SOIL MOISTURE SENSOR
A SOIL MOISTURE SENSOR IS A DEVICE THAT
MEASURE CURRENT SOIL MOISTURE AND WITH
SUITABLE MECHANISM ALLOWS WATER TO BE
IRRIGATED DEPENDING ON THE MOISTURE
CONTENT OF THE SOIL.
IT WORKS BY USING THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN
ELECTRICAL RESISTANCE AND WATER CONTENT
IN THE SOIL.
MORE WATER IN SOIL > MORE CONDUCTIVITY >
LESS RESISTANCE VALUE > HIGH MOISTURE
ARDUINO UNO
ARDUINO IS A SINGLE CARD
MICROCONTROLLER DESIGN TO MAKE THE
APPLICATION MORE APPRICIABLE .
The UNO BOARD of ARDUINO is a
MICROCONTROLLER based on ATmega328.
It has 14 digital input and output pins in which 6 can
be used as PWM outputs,6 analog inputs ,a USB
connection, a 16 MHz ceramic resonator , a power
connector and a reset button.
LCD 16*2 LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) 16*2 means it can display 16
character per line and there are 2 such lines.
In this LCD each character displayed in 5*7 pixel matrix.
This LCD has two registers, namely, Command and Data.
The command resister stores the command instructions
given to the LCD.
The data register stores the data to be displayed on the LCD.
It include 8 bit data pin.

PUMP – It is a DC pump for water supply to the plant.
It will be connected to the Arduino through relay switch which
will control water flow through turn on and off the pump automatically as
required.

like open circuit.
