Algerian traditional
costumes
Algerians have inherited and preserved many traditional garments
and dresses because they are considered as an aspect of culture and
civilization. Due to cultural diversity in the country, there are
numerous costumes which differ from a region to another. But
owing to time constraints,we tried to introduce the most famous
ones.
The Algerian Kaftan

❖ It is originally a male Persian dress.


❖ The Ottomans introduced it to Algeria in
the 15th century.
❖ The first female Kaftan was designed in
Algeria.
The Chedda of Tlemcen
❖ It is a type of the Algerian Kaftan.
❖ it dates back to the pre-fall Andalusia
period.
❖ It combines several civilizations.
❖ The secret behind its name.
The Algerian Karakou
❖ It appeared in the 15th century.
❖ It used to be worn by the aristocratic
class women in Algiers.
❖ It contains a long sleeved velvet jacket
embroidered with golden or silver
threads.
Jabador
❖ An Algerian male costume of Ottoman
origin.
❖ It appeared in Algeria in 1515.
❖ In the Ottoman times, it was worn by
Algeria's rulers and high class.
❖ Nowadays, people wear it in religious and
traditional occasions.
Indian traditional costumes
India is one of the most religiously and ethnically
diverse nations in the world, Clothing in India is
dependent upon the different ethnicity,
geography, climate, and cultural traditions of the
people of each region of India. We tried to
introduce some of the most famous traditional
dresses.
Sari
● A Traditional Indian clothing for women.
In the north and east, Saris are worn with
choli tops.
● The first mention of saris is in the Rig
Veda.
● It consists of an unstitched drape varying
from 4.5 to 9 metres in length and 600 to
1,200 millimetres in breadth
Ghagra choli
● Ghagra choli is a type of ethnic
clothing for women
● It is also known as lehenga choli and
locally as chaniya choli)
● Worn in the Indian states of
Rajasthan,Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh,
Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana, Punjab,
Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand,
Jammu and Kashmir
Sherwanis

● This is a traditional dress for men


● Sherwani is a long-sleeved outer coat
worn by men.
● It appeared first at Lucknow in the
1820s.
Dhoti
● Dhoti is a long fabric that can reach up
to fifteen yards
● It is a lower garment.
● It wrapped around the waist and the
legs.
