Vision of God

This document discusses the Church's vision for youth. It states that God has always cared for the young and counted on youth as collaborators. The Church's vision for youth flows from God's vision, expecting to see youth positively rather than just as preparation for the future. It discusses documents affirming a "preferential option for the young" and convincing the Church that God wants youth in the Church and offers the Church to youth. St. John Paul II assured youth that all have a place in the Church.

The Vision of God and of the

Church for the Youth

God has ever been
consistent in His
fondness for the
young.
In the history of salvation, God
counts on the youth as His
collaborators.
The Church’s Vision for the
Youth
Out of God’s own vision for the
young flows that now of the Church,
in her own relating with the young.
After all, just as God has “taken a
look” at the young with so much
predilection, so also the Church is
expected to do the same
Society sees young in: Church sees young:

A period of preparation Less futuristically and

for the future role but is more positively
lacking any significant
present role
In an ecclesial document from the Third General Conference
of the Latin American bishops held in Puebla, Mexico in the
year 1979.

•Youth are not just a group of

persons of a certain chronological
age.
•Youth cannot just be considered in
the abstract.
“Preferential option for the
young”

#Forgotten Option
Conviction of the Church
1. The church must truly believe that God the Father,
before anyone else, wants each and every young
person to be in church

2. The church must be convinced that apart from the

virtues and defects of the young, God the Father still
decided to offer the church to the young so that they may
“live” in her fully and so that they may carry out the
work of evangelization.
Finally, in a remarkable statement, St. John
Paul II assured the youth that “no one of them
is considered a stranger in the Church… In
the Church there’s a place for everyone, when
with their constructive criticisms.

He invites them to love the Church, accept

her limitations, and participate actively in her
mission.
