INSIDE OUT

THE TRUE FACE OF EMOTIONS

Describe each
human character
in the story.
JOY

Joy is an optimistic character and

Riley's first character. Joy
always tries to make Riley feel
happy. Riley's feelings are
dominated by Joy, the memory of
joy that dominates Joy's feelings
forms a core memory which then
forms Riley's personality, which
is called personality island.
SADNESS
Sadness is a character who raises
Riley in his sad times, Sadness
just like Joy wants to make Riley
feel happy. But none of the other
four characters can understand
Sadness, they just think that
Sadness can only make Riley feel
sad. Sadness would feel even
sadder and then apologize to the
other feelings that she didn't
mean to upset Riley. But even so
Sadness was the one who could
throw Riley's idea of returning to
his old village, and back to his
parents. From this we can learn
that sadness is not always a bad
thing. Sadness can teach us about
certain things that will later
bring happiness.
DISGUST

Disgust is a character who

controls Riley's tastes. Disgust
is the most honest feeling to sort
out who Riley can be friends with,
not only that but also about food
and the dangerous things that
might happen. So it was Disgust
who decided which group he should
join. Disgust is also one of the
characters who tries to maintain
Riley's emotional state in Joy's
absence. However, they failed and
even further distanced Riley from
his parents.
ANGER

Anger is a character who always

upholds justice and ensures that
Riley always gets justice in
everything. Anger is the one who
controls when Riley is angry or
emotional about something he
doesn't like. But behind all that
Anger also wants Riley to stay
happy, it can be seen when Joy
leaves the emotion control center,
Anger continues to wait for Joy's
arrival because he can't control
every angry feeling so he will
continue to get angry when he
doesn't get what he wants.
FEAR
Fear is a character who can
protect Riley. When Riley feels
uncomfortable then Fear will
control Riley, like when Riley was
playing and almost got
electrocuted Fear tried to keep
Riley from being electrocuted. But
Fear often feels afraid and
panicked in certain conditions.
How do the
characters show
their positive
and the
negative
feelings?
The character Joy is responsible for making all of Riley’s memories happy.
Sadness makes Riley cry and keeps her from suppressing stresses and negative
emotions that can start over. Disgust prevents access to objects/foods with
a foul odor, reducing their impact on expired or disease-causing items.
Anger helps Riley release her repressed emotions in the form of an explosion
of sadness or anger, but powerfully. Fear gives a sense of self-preservation
to protect her from life-threatening situations.
What feelings
are dominant in
the characters?
The most dominant feelings of Riley was Joy, because Riley's feelings are
dominated by Joy, the memory of joy that dominates Joy's feelings forms a
core memory which then forms Riley's personality, which is called
personality island.
Which characters
attempt to block
the expressions of
particular
feelings? How do
they do so? Do you
find yourself
blocking feelings
consistently?
Joy was the character who attempted to block the other feelings because she
wanted Riley to have only joyful memories and feelings. Yes, sometimes I
found myself blocking my feelings consistently when the time that I
pretended that I am not affected by the things that is happening around me.
