Experimental Drama: By: Whynzell Cris Cabanting

Experimental drama breaks from traditional drama forms by experimenting with new techniques and ideas to tell stories in novel ways. It began in the 1900s and includes absurdist drama and avant-garde drama. Absurdist drama, which emerged in the 1950s-1980s, explores the idea that life is meaningless through a dramatic lens. It was influenced by philosophers like Heidegger, Sartre, and Camus. Waiting for Godot is a famous example. Avant-garde drama is ahead of its time and experimental, sometimes using new technologies. Examples include The Automobile Graveyard, The Tricycle, and The Labyrinth. Writing experimental drama allows exploring new ideas and engaging audiences in unexpected ways.
