Online dating scams are a growing problem. Some online dating sites and apps are used by fraudsters to target victims for financial gain through dishonest means like catfishing and phishing. Catfishing involves creating a fake online profile to build trust and steal money, while phishing is collecting personal or financial details to enable online theft. To avoid scams, it is important to use reputable sites only, verify people's identities, not share private details or money, and be wary of requests for gifts or emergencies. Staying safe involves moving slowly in communication and not engaging with suspicious links, calls or video requests.
