PROPER NUTRITION

PROPER NUTRITION

Proper nutrition is the consumption of foods and drinks

that provide the body with the essential nutrients it needs to
function properly. Proper nutrition is important for overall
health and wellness, as it helps to maintain a healthy weight,
boosts energy levels, and strengthens the immune system.
FOOD PYRAMID
The food pyramid is actually a graphical
representation, in the form of a triangle, of
nutritional standards. It indicates the quantities and
types of food needed daily to maintain the health
status and to prevent or reduce the risk of
development of eating disorders.
FOOD PYRAMID
The food pyramid is designed to make healthy
eating easier. According to the Healthy Food
Pyramid, a variety of foods should be
consumed from all food groups, as well as
within each group, to obtain different nutrients
and to meet our daily needs. Eating too much
or too little is not good for our health.
MAJOR NUTRIENTS SHOULD BE
CONSIDERED IN OUR DAILY DIET

Carbohydrates provide our body with energy

Protein is necessary to repair body cells and tissues
Vitamins help regulate body functions
Fats serve as a source of energy for vitamin storage and
body insulation
Minerals strengthen muscles, bones and teeth, enrich the
blood, and keep the heart and other organs healthy; and
Water keeps 60% of an adult’s total body weight. It helps
break down food, carries nutrients throughout the body,
removes wastes, and maintains a stable body temperature
(Sadsad 2008)

consuming a well-balanced diet that
contains all the necessary nutrients in the
