Interoperable and Connected Health Systems

SECTION 2: HIV UPDATE 3

National Data Repository (NDR)

A central data warehouse that

captures de-identified patient-
level data from Nigeria’s HIV
site-level EMR systems
providing support for reporting
key indicators and includes a
web portal for access to
dashboards

NDR Information Architecture

SECTION 2: HIV UPDATE 5

Data Submission Mechanism

• XML files are generated from the EMR

following an XML schema definition (XSD)

• Upload XML files to the NDR via an upload

function on the NDR web portal

• Quality checks

• Feedback

HIV Data Dissemination and Use

• The dissemination of HIV data and information products will be via regular
fact sheets, bulletins, report and official social media platforms
• Also validated data are shared with the states biannually as a way of
feedback
• Data use should be encouraged at all levels especially at the health facilities
where these data are generated, to improve patient management and
monitoring
• To facilitate routine multidirectional evaluation (compare self vs self, self vs others,
self vs target & Self in trend)
• Keeps focus on indicators and targets (e.g. 95-95-95)

SECTION 2: HIV UPDATE 15

Key Points
• Integrated data systems provide the opportunity to use data for
research, monitoring and evaluation
• Analysis of patient level data is useful for clinical management,
understanding of interruption in care
• HIV data can be used for evaluation and keep track of indicators
and targets
