What Is RMG?
About
Ready Made Garments
• The textile and garments industries are one of
the main drivers of growth in Bangladesh's
quickly expanding economy.
• The “Made in Bangladesh” tag has brought glory
to our country in the international market.
• In the early 1980s, the journey of RMG industry
began and come to this position it is today.
Currently contributing 83% of export earning for
the country.

An interview was conducted through Zoom call during
professional hours which only allowed limited time to extract
data profoundly.
HISTORY
Journey of RMG
When our only major export earner "the jute industry"
started losing its golden days, it is the RMG sector that replaced
it, and then, to overtake it.
Pioneer of RMG
The late NuroolQuader Khan was the pioneer of the
readymade garment industry in Bangladesh. He had a vision of
how to transform the country.
First Garments
Factory
The first factory "Desh Garments” to produce garments and
export it. At the same time, the late Akhter Mohammad Musa
of Bond Garments, the late Mohammad Reazuddin of Reaz
Garments also establish garments factory.
Major
Businesses of the
Industry
Ha-meem Group
o Worked with ZARA, GAP, H&M, JCPenney, etc.
Major products of this garment company are
Denim Jeans, Men’s Shirts, Dress Pants, Jackets
Facility, and others.
Beximco Apparels Limited
o 100% export-oriented garments manufacturing
company that produces woven fabric garments like
men’s dresses, casual shirts, and ladies’ blouses.
o Primarily exports its garment products to the USA,
Canada, and European countries
Economic Contribution
In 1972 Bangladesh’s GDP was estimated at USD
6.29billion and it grew to USD 35.3 Billion.
By 2002 textile, apparel, and ready-made garments
export accounted for 77% of total GDP

• Bangladesh becoming the second-largest exporter of clothing,
first being China.
• In 2003-04 RMG sector of Bangladesh earned USD 5686.06

Progressive government actions such as- Organizing Training programs for the workers,
establishing proper work environment, increasing wages incentive and employing
qualified supervisors.
