MASONRY TOOLS
Appropriate tools are adopted in masonry to suit
the kind of work involved.
It also includes some carpenter tools such as the
measuring tools, testing tools,
Roughing up tools
Roughing up tools are those
tools necessary in the process of
preparing, arranging, forming,
laying, and shaping of bricks,
stones, and masonry blocks.
Tools of
this type of work are mostly
striking tools such as:
1. Masons Axe

. The ace to serve as a chisel and the hammer for driving nails and other rough work in masonry.
Brick Hammer • is another type of combination hammer used for dressing and cutting bricks,
stones, concrete blocks plus other driving operations.
2. Patent Hammer

4. Crandall

Hand tool of a stonecutter to hammer away the irregularities on a


hard stone face. It is composed of a number of pointed irons, held
together in a bracket with a locking wedge. The handle can be wood
or metal.
5. Cross Pen Hammer
A straight pein is a "blade" that is parallel to the handle. The
straight pein can be sharp, rounded, flat, smooth or textured.
A straight pein hammer can be used in metal work, stone
work, blacksmithing or woodworking. A staight pein is
parallel to the handle.

7. Star Drill

STAR DRILLS ARE the forerunners of today's electric masonry drill bits. They are
designed to create holes in masonry, brick, stone, and concrete. Star Drills are for
hand use only. They are not to be used in power drilling equipment.

1. Ordinary Trowel-flat hand tools used
for applying, spreading, and mortar to
produce a relatively smooth finish on
concrete surfaces in the final stages of
finishing.

brickwork and adding the finish properly.
3.Brick Trowel -spreading mortar on
bricks or concrete blocks with a technique
called "buttering".

4. Buttering Trowel-to spread a layer of


mortar or plaster on a surface.
5. Edger- a long, thin tool used to clean
up the edge of a concrete slab. It creates a
smooth edge along the top of newly
placed concrete.

6, Margin Trowelflat-nosed trowel used


to work mortar in tight spaces and corners
where a larger pointed trowel will not fit.
