 Termites:
Termites are small, pale soft bodied
insect that lives in large colonies with
several different castes, typically within
a mound of cemented earth.
Scientifically they are also known
as “Isoptera”.

Types of termites :
1) Dry wood termites
2) Damp wood termites
3) Subterranean termites
1) Dry wood termites:
Dry wood termites are those termites specially found on
wood(absence of moisture). They are also known as summer termites.
They do not get contact with soil and excavate their nest and live directly in wood.
 Damp wood termites:
Damp termites are those termites that lives in
damp decaying wood and moist living wood and do not require a
connection with soil. They are often found in fallen logs and tree strums
in forest. They are larger termites than other in comparisons to size.
 Subterranean termites :
Subterranean termites are the termites found in soil.
They are social insects that live in colonies containing caste
systems.
They feed on wood and cause extensive damage on buildings or
other wooden structures. They are also cold blooded insects also
known for soil termites.
 The termites breed and spread so fast that they can damage a
building made up of wood, cement etc. within 4-5 years. Keeping in
view the damage caused by the termites so it is desirable to take
suitable measures to prevent the ingress of termites into the
buildings.
 Anti-termites treatment:
Anti-termites is a chemical procedure carried out for
soil, masonary wood and electrical fixtures to provide the building with the
chemical barrier against the termites before and after construction.
 Some chemicals used during anti-termites
treatment:
