Peace Found In Christ

TEXT: JOHN 14:1-6

What was happening and why are they
troubled.
What was happening and why are they troubled.
The disciples had reason to be troubled because of these;
- Jesus had just told them that one of them was a traitor,
- that Peter would deny Him,
- and that He would leave them that night.

All of this would legitimately trouble the disciples, yet Jesus told
them, let not your heart be troubled.

“Worry never robs tomorrow of its sorrow;
it only saps today of its joy.”—Leo
Buscaglia
I. Listening to His Dictation(v.1)

A. Comforting words from Jesus

“Let not your heart be troubled”
The term “be troubled” can be interpreted in various ways. The
Greek word is tarassesthō, and this implies to disturb or agitate due to
uncertainties. Obviously, this is the complete opposite of remaining in
a peaceful state over uncertainties.
B. Jesus Christ’s command
1. Believe in Jesus Christ
What does it mean to believe in Jesus Christ?
- Belief in Jesus is not just a mental
acknowledgement, but rather it is a surrender of our lives to
him. This means acknowledging that he is Lord of our lives
and that we are willing to follow him wherever he leads. By
surrendering our lives to Jesus, we can experience the
abundant life that he promises.
II. Hope His Declaration (v.2,3)

A. Certainty of a place in The Father’s house.

a. Many mansions in the Father’s house

b. Christ prepared a place for us

B. What Jesus Christ assured us

a. He will return for us.

b. He wants us to be with him.

c. His words are true

III. Believe His Description (v.5-6)

I am – In the Greek language, “I am” is a very intense way of referring to oneself. It

would be comparable to saying, “I myself, and only I, am.”
A. Jesus Christ as;
a. The Way
The way – Jesus used the definite article to distinguish Himself as “the only
way.” A way is a path or route, and the disciples had expressed their confusion about
where He was going and how they could follow.
Jesus is our only access to God and salvation. There is no other way to be saved.
Our good works cannot save us neither can our positions in the church or among men
can save us.
b. The truth

- He IS incarnate Truth. He is the personification of truth.

Everything that is not of Christ is a lie, a deception, a distortion of
truth, a half-truth, or a partial truth. Without JESUS we do not know
where to go. Without Jesus, we do not know what is the truth, and
without Jesus, there is no way to live life or to face death.
FIVE FACTS OF LIFE
1. YOU ARE A SINNER! – Romans 3:10, 23

2. YOU ARE GOING TO DIE! – Romans 5:12, 6:23

3. YOU WILL BE JUDGED! – Ecclesiastes 12:14, Hebrews 9:27

4. YOU CAN’T SAVE YOURSELF! – Ephesians 2:8-9, Romans 4:5, Isaiah

64:6

5. YOUR ONLY HOPE IS THE LORD JESUS CHRIST – John 14:6, Acts
4:12, Romans 5:8-9,10:9,13
c. The life
- Jesus Christ is THE Life, Who breathes His own
resurrected life into a fallen man, by faith. Every man is born
spiritually dead in trespasses and sins and is incapable of saving
himself. But Christ is the Source of all spiritual life and in Him is
eternal life for all who trust in His redemptive work. It is through
faith in Him that we are made a new creation in Christ. It is by faith
in Him that we are in-dwelt by the Spirit of God Who enlivens us –
body, soul, and spirit… in time and throughout eternity.
IV. Expect our Destination(v. 6)

A. To where the Father is.

B. a. Heaven – is what we long for.
C. • The First Heaven – Atmosphere
D. • The Second Heaven – Galaxy
• The Third Heaven, the location of which is not revealed, is the
dwelling place of God. Jesus promised to prepare a place for true
Christians in heaven (John 14:2).
Heaven is described as:
1. God’s dwelling place (Psalms 33:13).
2. Where Christ is today (Acts 1:11).
3. Where Christians go when they die (Philippians
1:21-23).
4. The Father’s house (John 14:2).
5. A city designed and built by God (Hebrews 11:10).
6. A better country (Hebrews 11:16).
5. Paradise (Luke 23:43).
Conclusion:

Jesus is reassuring the disciples by reminding them of

the bigger picture. He wants them to see that, through Him,
there is no reason to fear or be troubled by the affairs of life.
It is also through Him that we have access to our Father who
cares for us and has prepared an eternal home for us.
Therefore, the only reason we should become fearful would
be if we did not have the access to the Father.
