WHAT IS CYBER
SECURITY ?
The term cyber security is used to refer to
the security offered through online services
to protect our online information. It is
necessary as it helps i securing from
threats such as data theft or misuse , also
safeguards our system from viruses.
Need of cyber security
in virtual class
In response to the current situation related to the COVID-19 pandemic
and the resultant lockdown has prevented us from organising face-to-
face interactions , and this has given way to online classrooms, a very
new concept in India even for the most sophisticated schools to prevent
the spread of virus.
Now , Technology has had an impact on nearly every aspect of society .
Many of today’s activities are increasingly dependent on information
systems, electronic devices, and data networks . At the same time, we
are seeing new threats and vulnerabilities emerge, and as a result,
security risks are increasing in number, frequency and impact and as a
result it leads to cyber crimes . Reasons behind these cyber crimes can
be - For the sake of recognition , For the sake of quick money ,
Difficulty in identification , .Limited media coverage etc. Due to all this
there is very much importance of cyber security in virtual classes
( Technology).
Danger of cyber crime
during virtual class
In present situation there is a boom of cyber crimes in
virtual classes and an appropriate example for this is –
ZOOM cloud meeting app. As a result Supreme Court
bench led by Chief Justice of India S.A. Bobde had
issued a notice to the central government to ban the use
of video-conferencing app Zoom due to following
reasons-
• Effect on cyberspace : The use of Zoom App has severely
affected the cyberspace by leaking the personal data of its users
• Routing of data : Zoom was found to be sending data to
Facebook, even if weren’t logged in to a Facebook account
• Lack of session security : There is a lack of password
protection during the sessions .
Safety Tips
• Increase awareness: As a student we should increase the
awareness to know the basics of staying safe online by using
techniques like installation of antivirus etc.
• Protect our identity: We should always remember to never give
out our personal information.
• Protect our computer: We should regularly kept on updating
security software which can protect us against scammers, hackers
etc.
• Create unique passwords: For online safety , we should use
different passwords for every online account.
• Maintain Backup : We should always keep backup of our data
and should uninstall unnecessary software on regular basis.
• Prevent Cyberbullying: We should always kept in mind about
what we post on the net about other people and the consequences
of those posts could have if they are unkind or mean.
Challenges with cyber crime
There are many challenges in front of us to fight against the cyber
crime. Some of them here are discussed below:
A. Lack of awareness and the culture of cyber security, at individual as
well as organizational level.
B. Lack of trained and qualified manpower to implement the counter
measures.
C. No e-mail account policy especially for the defence forces, police
and the security agency personnel.
D. The minimum necessary eligibility to join the police doesn’t include
any knowledge of computers sector so that they are almost illiterate
to cyber-crime.
E. Budgets for security purpose by the government especially for the
training of law enforcement, security personnel’s and investigators
in ICT are less as compare to other crimes.
F. Security forces and Law enforcement personnel are not equipped to
address high-tech crimes.
