Look around the classroom. See how many students there are.
That’s in this one Biology
group. Now imagine 770 classes this big. That how many children will die before bed
tonight because they have no food to eat. Do we take our food for granted? Have a think!
Balanced diet - a diet that contains all the main nutrients in
the correct amounts and proportions to maintain good
health
Malnutrition - lack of proper nutrition, caused by not having
enough to eat, not eating enough of the right things
(unbalanced diet), or being unable to use the food that one
does eat

CORANORY HEART DISEASE - THE 5 KEY POINTS:
• Eating foods high in saturated fats and LDL (low density lipoproteins) encourages
fat to build up in the walls of the coronary arteries; these are small arteries that
supply the heart muscle with oxygen.
• Over time, this fat will cause the coronary arteries to narrow, and it will be harder
for blood to pass through them.
• The fat may become hard, and form what is called an atheroma (or plaque).
Q) Why might high levels of calcium in the plaque cause problems?
• The blood now has to travel at an even higher pressure to get through these blood
vessels. If these vessel becomes completely blocked, then blood cannot deliver
oxygen to the cells of the heart tissue, which need oxygen for respiration. This
could lead to a heart attack (correctly named a myocardial infarction)
• High levels of fat in the diet also contribute to obesity, which may subsequently
lead to problems such as high blood pressure, heart disease and diabetes.
Q) What would the long term consequences of uncontrolled diabetes be?
Your task is to find out the
cause, effects and possible
  solutions to these two
  devastating conditions.
