To recall and organize key knowledge about cells.
Pre-assessment
1. (6)
2. Name a type of cell that does not have a nucleus. (1)
3. What substances does a cell need to respire.(1)
4. Write the word equation for aerobic respiration. (1)
5. Calculation the magnification of a microscope with a x10 eyepiece and x45
objective lens. (1)
Starter activity From the images given,
Observe the focussed slide identify the specialised cells
through the microscope. and recall their functions.
List five key facts about cells
that you can recall.
How much progress have I made?
How may I revise the concept?
Refer to the list of glossary terms and the reference slides given in
the following slides. Get familiar with these terms and ideas to be
used in the following lessons.
ORGANELLE FUNCTION
Cell membrane • Controls what comes in and goes out of the cell.
Nucleus • Contains genetic material (needed to make “new cells”)
• Controls the cell (brain of the cell).
• Made up some more parts like nuclear membrane, nucleoplasm, nucleolus and
nuclear pore.
Cytoplasm • Jelly like substance present inside the cell membrane.
• All chemical reactions take place here.
Mitochondria • Makes energy for the cell (powerhouse of the cell).
Endoplasmic reticulum • Synthesis and processing of proteins.
• Passages for transport of materials.
• Usually found close to the nucleus.
Golgi complex • Packages proteins into membrane bound vesicles for transport within the cell or
out of the cell.
