In the picture on the right, Margaret
Hamilton, lead software engineer of the
Apollo Project, stands next to the code
she wrote by hand and that was used
to take humanity to the moon. [1969]

Hamilton says in an email. "To clarify,
there are no other kinds of printouts,
like debugging printouts, or logs, or

Margaret’s Major
Achievements
Margaret was assigned to design a program to tell
the computer what to do if the mission aborted.
She designed the computer to take priorities into
account which is what made the Apollo mission
successful after an error had occurred. Margaret
and her team were responsible for developing in-
flight software. She mainly focused and worked
detecting system errors and recovering information
in a computer crash. No bugs were ever found in
the in-flight software for any crewed Apollo mission
