Light

• The branch of physics dealing with the properties and

behavior of light is called optics. Light is a form of
energy which helps us to see the objects

Knowledge fact
Sun is about 150
million kilometre
away from earth
Some important light source

• Torch, sun, stars, bulb, lamp etc.

Types of light

• Natural light • Artificial light

Natural and Man made sources of light

Natural Man made or artificial

• The sources of light which occur • The sources which have been
in nature as such are called made by man are called man
natural sources of light made sources of light (or
artificial sources of laght)
Luminous object and non luminous
object

Luminous object Non luminous object

• An object that gives out its own • An object that does not gives out
light is called luminous object. its own light is called non
luminous object.
Transparent, Translucent, and
Opaque objects

Those materials which Those material which Those materials which do not
allow any light to pass through
allow all the light to pass allow only some of the them are called opaque object
through them are called light to pass through
transparent materials. them are called
translucent object. The property of light travels
in straight lines is called
rectilinear propagation of
light.
The pinhole camera

A pinhole camera is a simple camera, without lens, in the

shape of a box. One of the sides has a small hole and it
produces an inverted image of the outside world at other
side. The image of the outer object is created inverted on
the inner box translucent screen.
Shadows

Shadows are formed when light is stopped by an object. An

object forms shadow on the opposite side to the source of
light
