CCO (Chromium Carbide Overlay) wear plates
Chromium Carbide Overlay (CCO) wear plates are composite materials designed
for high-wear environments. They consist of a base metal layer, typically mild
steel or low-carbon steel, and a hard overlay layer that contains high
concentrations of chromium carbide. The overlay is created using a welding or
thermal spraying process, depositing the hard, abrasion-resistant layer on the
base.
Composition and Properties of CCO.
Chromium (Cr): 25–35% (primary alloying element for carbide formation).
Carbon ©: 3–5% (essential for carbide formation; forms chromium carbide, Cr7C3 or
Cr3C2).
Manganese (Mn): 1–3% (improves toughness and wear resistance).
Silicon (Si): 0.5–2% (used as a deoxidizer during welding)
Properties:
Hardness: Typically ranges from 55-65 HRC in the overlay layer due to the presence of
chromium carbides (Cr7C3).
Wear Resistance: Highly resistant to abrasion, sliding, and impact wear.
Temperature Resistance: Can withstand temperatures up to 600–800°C, depending on the
specific composition.

WEAR IS EVERYWHERE
Industrial processing is very frequently linked to wear,
of varying degrees and types. Here’s an indicative list of
components and equipment typically requiring wear
protection solutions due to significant abrasion, erosion
and/ or impact in the respective mechanical processes.

Cement & Concrete
Cement is used in almost all construction projects globally. Its
production process comprises a series of steps- from raw
material extraction all the way to clinker mixing and storing,
most of which are subject to harsh abrasion. Massive material
flows create a considerable strain for equipment and tools, thus
professional wear protection becomes critical.
There is an opportunity as provider of wear protection Solutions
for the Cement and Concrete Industries, extending the usable
life of equipment and minimizing maintenance costs.
Wear parts are manufactured-to-order using optimized Hard facing process,
