Active Directory Users and Computers (ADUC)

• Microsoft Management Console (MMC) is a framework that hosts snap-ins. Snap-

ins are dedicated consoles that help manage various facets of Active Directory.

• Some common snap-ins include Active Directory Users and Computers (ADUC),
Group Policy Management Console (GPMC), and Active Directory Domains and
Trusts.

• The ADUC console is dedicated to managing AD objects like users, computers,

groups, contacts, and organizational units (OUs), as well as their respective
attributes. The functionalities of ADUC extend to querying the list of AD objects
based on specific attributes and conditions as well. ADUC helps administrators
maintain a well-organized and secure AD environment.
ADUC Functions

•Create and manage AD objects like users, computers, groups, and contacts,
along with their attributes.

•Create and manage OUs.

•Modify the attributes of AD objects.

•Manage group policies and change domain controllers.

•Manage the domain-wide FSMO roles, namely RID Master, PDC Emulator,
and Infrastructure Master.

•Search for objects within the AD database.

Installation of ADUC

Installing ADUC using the command line

Alternatively, you can install ADUC from the command line, as follows:
Click Start (or press Win+R) > Type “cmd” > Press Enter.

Run following commands:

dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:RSATClient-Roles-AD dism /online /enable-feature
/featurename:RSATClient-Roles-AD-DS dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:RSATClient-
Roles-AD-DS-SnapIns

Preliminary Steps Before Installation of
ADUC

Before initiating the installation process, it is crucial to ensure system

compatibility for a smooth ADUC installation. Both Windows 10 and 11 offer
support for ADUC, but verifying system prerequisites helps prevent potential
roadblocks, ensuring a smooth user experience. Check the system you intend to
use meets the following minimum requirements:

1.Operating System version: Ensure your system is running either Windows

10 or Windows 11.
2.Processor: A compatible processor, at minimum 1GHz clock speed, and
preferably with multi-core capabilities for enhanced performance.
3.RAM (Random Access Memory): A minimum of 4GB RAM is recommended
for optimal ADUC functioning.
4.Hard disk space: Allocate sufficient disk space for the operating system,
ADUC installation, and additional storage for user data. 32GB is the supported
minimum.
5.Internet connection: An active internet connection is beneficial for updates
