tools like pins, thread,
thimble, buttons and
others are kept in this

MEASURING
TOOLS
1. Tape measure – made of cloth or plastic and
used for taking body measurement.
2. Ruler – Used to measure and draft lines on a
fabric or pattern.
3. Hem gauge – This small ruler has a sliding guide
and is about 6 inches long. This is used for
measuring the hemlines, button holes and areas
where other small measurements require checking
such as pleats and tucks.
4. Meter or Yard Stick - A yardstick is made of
smooth, shellacked hardwood or metal. It is used
for marking hemlines and checking grainlines when
laying out the pattern
CUTTING
TOOLS
1. Dressmaking Shears – Big scissors used for
cutting
2.Sewing Scissors – Used for trimming seams and
facings.
3. Thread Clippers – Used for snipping thread.
4. Seam Ripper – Used to open seams as well as
other detailed work.

TOOLS
1. Needles – has one sharp end and a hole at
the other end to make the thread pass through.
2. Pins – used to hold pieces of fabric
3. Pin Cushion – made of varied materials
such as cotton, it is used to keep
needles and pins when unused.
4. Emery Bag – similar to pin cushion but with
rougher content, to sharpen the tips of pins
and needles to prevent from getting rust.
5. Thread – used for stitching clothes,
comes in different colors and thickness
6. Needle Threader – to aid in inserting
the thread into the eye of the needle.
7. Thimble – small, durable, protective
cap made of metal or plastic, used to
protect the finger from being pricked
when pushing the needle through the
cloth.
8. Fabric A fabric is the cloth used in
making garments. The plain cotton
fabrics, flour sack or “katsa” is the most
appropriate material for beginners
because it is easy to handle.
