INTRODUCTION
• Movments:- It is a process of changing the position of the body
or its part and posture.
• Movement are two types-
• Voluntary ( act own consciously; ex- flexion, extension. etc.)
• Involuntary (act unconsciously; ex- heart beats
• Voluntary movement are two types –
• Active movement/exercise ( which exercises done by the patient)
• Passive movement/exercise (which exercises done by the therapist or
any external force)
ACTIVE MOVEMENT/EXERCISE
• This exercise are four types –
1. Free exercise
2. Active assisted exercise
3. Active resisted exercise
4. Active assisted resisted exercise
BENIFITS OF ACTIVE MOVEMENT/EXERCISE
• Improve muscle strength .
• Improve circulation .
• Enhances joint mobility.
• Enhances coordination and balance.
• Prevent contracture.
• Improve endurance.
• Improve posture.
PASSIVE MOVEMENT/EXERCISE
This exercise are four types –
1. Relaxed passive movement/exercise.
2. Force passive movement/exercise.
3. Manipulation.
4. Mobilization.
BENIFITS OF PASSIVE
MOVEMENT/EXERCISE
• Maintain and improve joint mobility.
• Prevents joint stiffness and contracture.
• Reduce muscle spasm .
• Helps reduce swelling and edema.
• Provide relaxation.
CONTRAINDICATIONS OF ACTIVE & PASSIVE
EXERCISE/MOVEMENT
1. Recent fracture.
2. Acute soft tissue injury.
3. Severe pain.
4. Hypertension.
5. High fever.
