Job Description

As an Engineering Manager (Data Engineering) at Amgen, your role will involve leading and mentoring a team of data engineers in the R&D domain of biotech or pharma companies. You will foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning to solve complex problems within the R&D division. Your responsibilities will include overseeing the development of data extraction, validation, and transformation techniques to ensure high-quality data for downstream systems. Additionally, you will guide the team in writing and validating high-quality code for data processing and transformation, as well as drive the development of data tools and frameworks for efficient data management across the organization.

Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and mentor a team of data engineers in the R&D domain of biotech/pharma companies.
- Oversee the development of data extraction, validation, and transformation techniques.
- Guide the team in writing and validating high-quality code for data processing and transformation.
- Drive the development of data tools and frameworks for efficient data management.
- Oversee the implementation of performance monitoring protocols across data pipelines.
- Coach engineers in building dashboards and aggregations for monitoring pipeline health.
- Lead the implementation of self-healing solutions to improve pipeline stability.
- Ensure compliance with security policies, regulations, and data accessibility best practices.
- Collaborate with business leaders and cross-functional teams to align data architecture with product requirements.
- Drive Agile and Scaled Agile (SAFe) methodologies for project delivery.
- Stay up-to-date with emerging data technologies and industry trends.

Qualifications:
- Masters degree with 10-12+ years of experience in Computer Science, IT, or related field OR Bachelors degree with 8-10+ years of experience.
- Experience managing a team of data engineers in the R&D domain of biotech/pharma companies.
- Proficiency in Python, PySpark, SQL, dimensional data modeling, Apache Spark, Apache Airflow, and cloud platforms (AWS).
- Experience with software engineering best practices and AWS/GCP/Azure cloud services.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- AWS Certified Data Engineer, Databricks Certificate, and Scaled Agile SAFe certification preferred.
