Resurrection Day Message:
What is the Resurrection all
about?
Acts 17:31
Acts 17:31
Because he hath appointed a day, in the
which he will judge the world in
righteousness by that man whom he
hath ordained; whereof he hath given
assurance unto all men, in that he hath
raised him from the dead.
Background
Jesus Christ
Who is He?
What did He do?
Jesus Christ: Who
God in the flesh
John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the
Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and
dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the
glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full
of grace and truth.
Jesus Christ: What
His earthly ministry
John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill,
and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and
that they might have it more abundantly.
John 17:3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee
the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
John 20:31 But these are written, that ye might believe that
Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye
might have life through his name.
Why did Jesus need to rise again?
• His punishment meant our FORGIVENESS
(by faith)
• His resurrection meant our ETERNAL LIFE
(in Christ)
• His resurrection meant our ASSURANCE
that God the Father was pleased with /
accepted Christ’s sacrifice
Acts 17:31
Because he hath appointed a day, in the
which he will judge the world in
righteousness by that man whom he hath
ordained; whereof he hath given
assurance unto all men, in that he hath
raised him from the dead.
Jesus Christ
Jesus – Son of MAN & Christ – Son of GOD
Had to become a MAN to accomplish His work
Had to be GOD to complete the work
–Men die but GOD is ETERNAL
–Men fail but only GOD can do the IMPOSSIBLE
–Men are corrupt but only GOD is HOLY
Only GOD could pay GOD
Eternal payment for Eternal wrath
Hebrews 9:12 Neither by the blood of goats and
calves, but by his own blood he entered in once
into the holy place, having obtained eternal
redemption for us.
Hebrews 10:10 By the which will we are sanctified
through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ
once for all.
Last Enemy: Death
1Corinthians 15:26
The last enemy that shall be
destroyed is death.
No Resurrection
= Preaching in Vain
1Corinthians 15:14
And if Christ be not risen, then is
our preaching vain, and your
faith is also vain.
The Gospel:
The Death, Burial & Resurrection
of the Lord Jesus Christ
1Peter 3:18
For Christ also hath once suffered for
sins, the just for the unjust, that he
might bring us to God, being put to
death in the flesh, but quickened by the
Spirit:
We are supposed to
remember the LORD
through TWO ordinances:
1.Baptism
2.Lord’s Supper
“This do in remembrance of me”
Baptism represents NEWNESS of life
Romans 6:4
Therefore we are buried with him by
baptism into death: that like as Christ
was raised up from the dead by the
glory of the Father, even so we also
should walk in newness of life.
It does NOT give eternal life!
Resurrection means being dead to sin
Romans 6:7-10
7 For he that is dead is freed from sin.
8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that
we shall also live with him:
9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead
dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over
him.
10 For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in
that he liveth, he liveth unto God.
Jesus Christ
The Resurrection & The Life
John 11:25
Jesus said unto her, I am the
resurrection, and the life: he that
believeth in me, though he were
dead, yet shall he live:
Jesus Christ: Our Firstfruit
1Corinthians 15:20
But now is Christ risen from the
dead, and become the firstfruits of
them that slept.
The firstfruit belonged to God in the
Old Testament
There will be a Resurrection of the
LIVING and the DEAD
John 5:29
And shall come forth; they that have
done good, unto the resurrection of
life; and they that have done evil,
unto the resurrection of damnation.
There will be a Resurrection of the
LIVING and the DEAD
Revelation 20:12
12 And I saw the dead, small and great,
stand before God; and the books were
opened: and another book was opened,
which is the book of life: and the dead were
judged out of those things which were
written in the books, according to their
works.
GOD will JUDGE the world in
RIGHTEOUSNESS
Psalm 9:7-8
7 But the LORD shall endure for ever: he hath prepared
his throne for judgment.
8 And he shall judge the world in righteousness, he
shall minister judgment to the people in uprightness.
You DON’T want to stand before GOD with your own
righteousness
You DON’T want to be judged according to your own
works
James 2:10 For whosoever shall
keep the whole law, and yet offend
in one point, he is guilty of all.
GUILTY!
Acts 17:31
Because he hath appointed a day, in
the which he will judge the world in
righteousness by that man whom he
hath ordained; whereof he hath
given assurance unto all men, in that
he hath raised him from the dead.
GOD will PUNISH the world for
their SINS
Isaiah 13:11
And I will punish the world for their
evil, and the wicked for their
iniquity; and I will cause the
arrogancy of the proud to cease, and
will lay low the haughtiness of the
terrible.
Isa 13:11 And I will punish the
world for their evil…
What did the Lord accomplish by his
death, burial AND resurrection?
Isaiah 53:11
He shall see of the travail of his soul,
and shall be satisfied: by his
knowledge shall my righteous servant
justify many; for he shall bear their
iniquities.
What did the Lord accomplish by his
death, burial AND resurrection?
2Corinthians 5:21
For he hath made him to be sin
for us, who knew no sin; that we
might be made the righteousness
of God in him.
What did the Lord accomplish by his
death, burial AND resurrection?
Romans 10:4
For Christ is the end of the law for
righteousness to every one that
believeth.
It’s a story with a HAPPY ENDING!!
Some people
want to keep
Christ on the
cross
“Why seek ye
the living
among the
dead?”
Jesus Christ
• Glorified
• Magnified
• Exalted
He Lives!
How do I know?
“He walks with me and talks
with me along life’s narrow
way”
He Lives!
How do you know?
Blessings?
"for he [God] maketh his sun to rise on the evil and
on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on
the unjust" (Matthew 5:45).
