Three security researchers from USC, John Hering, Kevin Mahaffey, and James Burgess, discovered a Bluetooth vulnerability in the Nokia 3610 in 2004. They tried working with Nokia to patch the vulnerability but Nokia did not see it as a major issue. In 2007, the three founded Lookout, then known as Flexilis, to provide mobile security and protect against mobile-based threats. Lookout launched its first security app for Windows Mobile in 2008 and for Android later that year.
