About 16 % of people 6 to 19 years old are overweight in U.S. Health experts blame advertising agencies for contributing to poor eating habits and the growing obesity problem among children.

Marketing plays a big role today on forming people’s minds and making decisions. Companies spend about $10 billion a year to advertise food, beverages and restaurants to children through television and other media. The problem is that ads often promote unhealthy foods and beverages that are higher in fat and calories leading to increased obesity.
The government has sent a message to advertising companies to limit such ads and focus more on healthy foods. If the message doesn’t reach the ears of those in charge, law regulations will have to take over the problem.

The government has, besides media, addressed parents and schools to encourage healthier eating habits for the sake of our children and the whole nation.
