Bleach (stylized as BLEACH) is a Japanese anime television series based on the manga series of the same name by Tite Kubo. Noriyuki Abe directed the film, which was produced by Studio Pierrot. The 366-episode series broadcast on TV Tokyo from October 2004 to March 2012. After obtaining the abilities of a Soul Reaper”a death personification comparable to the Grim Reaper”from another Soul Reaper, Rukia Kuchiki, the tale chronicles Ichigo Kurosaki’s exploits. His newfound abilities lead him to take on the roles of protecting mankind from bad spirits and guiding the souls of the dead to the afterlife. With recurrent appearances and scenarios including these original characters, the anime adaptation contains original narratives not present in the book.
In March 2006, Viz Media acquired the Bleach anime’s overseas broadcast and home video distribution rights. From September 2006 until November 2014, Bleach was shown on Adult Swim in the United States.
The manga’s last story arc, “Thousand-Year Blood War,” will be adapted into an anime television series in October 2022, according to a March 2020 announcement.
