Cape Verde | Dolphin Acroboat
"Dolphin Acrobat" by Marian Herz: The ship was traveling between Ascension Island and Cape Verde. The ocean was deep, with little visible wildlife due to little available food. Our spotter on the bridge announced that a group of spinner dolphins was headed our way. There were over 50 of them. Initially I was just enthralled, watching them leaping and spinning. Then I decided I'd better take some photos. I focused on one small group of three and just hoped that one would leap and spin.
Tristan da Cunha | Out of the Water
"Out of the Water" by Marian Herz: Our ship was traveling between Tristan da Cunha and St. Helena Islands in the Atlantic Ocean. It was hard to decide which dolphin to photograph, but finally I saw one heading my way and just kept it in focus. The water was clear enough to see it under water...
Ascension Island | Flying Fish Reflection
"Flying Fish Reflection" by Marian Herz: We were traveling between St. Helena and Ascension Islands near the mid-Atlantic ridge. We had an absolutely calm day. The ocean was a mirror. The only action was the flying fish. With the lack of wind and a smooth surface, it was much easier to get the fish in focus. This is one of my favorite flying fish pictures with a reflection.
